Tourist questions

1. Is the Philippines a good nation to visit?
2. Is Croatia nice to see?
3. I like to visit some nations in the central Europe section. I was thinking Switzerland, Italy, Austria and perhaps Germany. What ones is the best one to go to first?
 
You might want to say a few words about what you want to see. Do you prefer cities or nature?

edit: And I agree with every single word Luiz says. There's not one thing in the post below me that is not also my opinion(quite an achievement really).

1. No idea about the Philippines. It would probably require some careful planning.

2. Everybody I know who has been there says Croatia is really nice.

3. I've been to all of those, and my personal favorite is Switzerland. There you can get a taste of Germany, France and Italy, all in a very small country all covered by excellent trains. The scenery there is pretty hard to beat if you like mountains. That said, Switzerland was never a powerful empire and as such they lack the massive palaces and world-class museums you will find in France, Italy, Germany and even Austria.
 
Be wary of thieves, and keep an eye - nay, TWO eyes - on your pants and camera at all times.

Would hou recommend Indonesia above Thailand? I'm thinking of checking out that corner of the world next year.

Really? I got a current US Army buddy who always tells me the Philippines is a blast. Tell me a bit more about Indonesia when you got time. :king:

Yes I would however Thailand is my second favorite SEA destination. I'd say Thailand wins in terms of pristine beaches and food but Indonesia offers a more varied, adventurous experience and the sheer mass of extremely friendly people tips the scales for me. Compare neighboring Bali and Lombok for example, two neighboring islands one of which is 95% Hindu the other 95% Muslim.

And whichever of the two you visit, make sure you do it on a motorbike. Not riding long distances between cities (too intense for me) but in any area you decide to stay in for a decent amount of time. I just find the freedom to get around on your own terms is essential.

EDIT.....@Elite......I guess it depends what you are after in a holiday. I guess The Phillipines offers more opportunity for debauchery but I doubt it can compare for sightseeing, adventures etc. Indonesia with the exception of Bali and Java to a lesser degree probably requires one to get a little more out of ones comfort zone.

And if you go to any of these cities, don't eat in the touristy old town areas.

Unless paying 8x more for food is your thing.
 
How so?

If I go to Switzerland and Austria, the former I just want to relax in a nice forest someplace and eat in some nice small place in town and in the latter go visit some palaces :D.

Back in 2004 my entire family of 5 ate at a fairly nice Egyptian restaurant in Krakow's market square, which is one of the most touristy parts of Poland, and paid under $50 for 5 full meals including all the drinks (mostly beers) and taxes.

Mind you that'a anecdotal and happened over 8 years ago, but we went all over Poland and the food was always cheap, no matter where we ate.

Meh, last time I was in Krakow I remember I spent 8 bucks on one ice cream cone. (Granted it was a really good ice cream cone)

I don't exactly remember the last time I ate out in the old town. I've had coffee and cakes or whatever there with people lots of times yes but last time I've eaten there was probably when I was a kid.

Having lived in the city for a bit, it seems to be popular opinion by locals that eating out there is a no-no though. I've heard from Winner or someone that Prague is just the same.
