Trial of Amanda Knox

It's amazing how people will defend a convicted murderer if she's a pretty American girl.

It's been in the cards that Knox did it all the time. And according to what I've heard, she 's seems guilty. No sympathy from me.

I don't understand what the big media fuss in the US is all about. Do you?
I thought Italy was a democratic county with decent legal system. Now, according to US media, it seems that I was wrong. Italy is apparently a country with medieval legal codes where influence is everything and people always get convicted of whatever crime they are convicted.

Being a democratic country doesn't mean its justice system doesn't send people unfairly up the river. We've done plenty of that here in Canada, and I don't think we're alone among OECD countries in that respect.

I know very little about this case so I won't comment on her guilt myself, but the being a democratic country doesn't mean the criminal justice system is without its corruption or unfair biases, especially when the accused is a foreigner.

And let's face it, if the accused was British, do you honestly think that the British media would have reported the story in the same manner?

The trail didn't get any (or very little) media attentions in the Netherlands.
What I've read about it is that the only piece of physical evidence is a knife with DNA of miss Kercher on the blade and DNA of miss Knox on the handle.

From what I understand the other evidence is this:
Knox did a cart wheel just before she was interrogated by the police
Her nickname was foxy knoxy
she had smiled in court
She has 'cold' eyes
She posted a strange story on her myspace page.

Did Knox murder Kercher? I really don't know.
Is this evidence enough to determine guild beyond reasonable doubt? I think not.

Someone in the flat tried to fake a window broken from the outside.

She and the co-defendant changed their story several times.

She named some individual as being responsible who turned out to have a solid alibi.

Few of her actions or statements appear congruent with her innocence.

I'm properly shocked and awed by the magnificence of the American legal system, which takes upon itself the right to decide even of lief and death, and was never wrong.

Never mind that our "good Italian boy" got a stunning year less than her. Never mind that no other clue was ever found. Never mind that Knox accounted herself by accusing a perfectly innocent African bar owner because, like, would the greasers ever really condemn me when I could implicate a black guy in the case [too bad he had an alibi]?

Oh yes, nobody in Perugia ever slept with her boyfriend. That must be the reason. And don't have running water, either.

this. the guardian article is ridiculous. it spends half of its letters to describe how shaken up the murderer was upon being convicted.

She should have confessed her crimes and begged for mercy, claim she did that horrible only because of the influence of drugs and that she is thruly sorry for what happened. That could easily reduced the sentence by half if not 2/3.

Instead she tried to deceive and lie her way out, hoping to get away with murder. They don't let bad, unrepentant people off easy.

The thing that really ticked me off was she falsely accused an innocent man of murder. Murder is a serious accusation and could have ruined the man's life if he happened to not have an alibi.
The US media was so wildly pro-Knox that they blamed it on the Italian police's 30-hour interrogation, saying that a person undergoing such stressful interrogation could have dreamed up something like this and it wasn't Knox' fault. It seems that Knox does not quite fit the "little angel" image that CNN was trying so hard to promote.

Good thing that some Afghan warlord didn't turn the little angel over to the U.S. for a bounty then.

In appears that after realizing her false accusation of the bar owner would not work, she's prepared to blame her ex-lover:

According to alleged leaks of her prison diary, Knox was similarly determined to maintain her innocence - and may have been preparing to blame her ex-boyfriend.

She is reported to have written: "I think it is possible Raffaele went to Meredith's house, raped her, then killed her and then when he got home, while I was sleeping, he pressed my fingerprints on the knife."

Wow, she's unbelievable.

Yeah, the knife is mentioned in the articles I've read about the case. The murderweapon had been cleaned but apparently not thoroughly. Her fingerprints were found on it along with traces of the victims blood.

I have no speciel love for the Italian justice system, but this time it appears they got the right individuals.

umm guys, didn't they live in the same house. Hell i beat you can find my roommates DNA on a blade with mine on the handle.

Whats even more amazing is the amount of Italian media that will occur if the person involved is a pretty American Girl.

I mean with all that media hype can you really say with a straight face that she got a fair trial?

My prediction: she will appeal, the hype will die down, cooler heads will prevail and she will probably get released.

There's a defense lawyer in you yet. :pat:

Hope the poor girl isn't aware of your 2006-2008 track record.

Heh.

Hope the poor girl isn't aware of your 2006-2008 track record.

As in all things, I was right on a few issues too, except you dont seem to remember those. Perhaps this next couple of election cycles I will redeem myself. We shall see.
