Trial of Amanda Knox

Disagree. So, if you enter China to visit some family, you open yourself to being executed with little evidence because of something?
That is correct.

British man said to be mentally ill executed in China

Mr Shaikh's family said he had been delusional and duped into a carrying a suitcase that did not belong to him when he was found with 4kg of heroin in Urumqi, north-west China, in September 2007.

His daughter has said drug smugglers in Poland convinced him they would make him a pop star in China.

Can someone reasonably impartial give me a tl;dr summary of what happened? Did she do it? Was she released based on some procedural technicality, or is there a reason to believe she is completely innocent?

---

Anyway, thank the Gods Italy doesn't have the death penalty :p

Palestinian secret agents did it and tried to frame her, implicating Israel's allies.

Did Nancy Grace ever chime in on this or was the prosecution's allegations too ridiculous even for her?

The Italian authorities decided she did it and made up an implausible scenario to explain it. And then railroaded her through the courts. Despite the fact that none of the evidence supported what the prosecutors were alleging. It was all so shady that she got another day in court where she was found innocent and freed.

This sounds rather partial to be honest ;)

Who killed the British girl? How was Knox tied to the crime? Was she entirely innocent, or did she play some role in the crime?

And why would the Italian authorities do what you just said?

I think she most likely is innocent. As they say: The simplest explanation is the correct one.

What's more likely? A lone drifter broke into a loft, and raped, killed, and robbed a woman? Or somehow Amanda Knox and her boyfriend persuaded him to do it, and were there when it happened? If they paid the guy to do it, the guy probably would have said so under questioning.

But then again, their cell phones were off the entire time. But that doesn't necessarily mean anything. They were probably having sex, so they turned their phones and computers off. I'm not sure why her bf said he was asleep, and she could have snuck out. Way to stick up for your girlfriend dude.

I don't know if she's innocent or guilty. But, like the OJ Simpson trial, the results rest on the fact that the police and prosecutors didn't do a professional and competent job.

I get that, I am asking for a "qualified" opinion of someone who followed the case.

I've just heard about it here and then on the news and never paid much attention to it.

I get the impression that the media in the US was VERY sympathetic to Knox during the original trial. Which is interesting because the media in the UK was VERY aggressive toward Knox when covering the same trial.

I would really like to hear some impartial stuff but... I doubt we're going to know =/

I based my information off Wiki (which was updated incorrectly last night, some moron made a typo), but it seemed objective enough. I wasn't swayed one way or another.

I just believe the simplest explanation is the correct one. I have trouble believing in some elaborate plot involving 3 people. Something would have came out by now.

This drifter seems like a pretty scuzzy fellow, and he most likely did it by himself. As far as I know, Amanda had no prior contact with this drifter.

Yeah, I've noticed that. It's quite understandable, since the victim was British and the supposed murderer American.

Are there any Italians on this forum (active, I mean)?

---

Anyway, I just wonder whether it would have come to a second trial if the 'wrongly accused" wasn't a pretty girl. (Just saying, I don't mean to imply she is guilty because of that.)

But why wouldn't the British be harsh on the actual murderer instead of Knox? The actual murderer had his DNA all over and inside the victim. I don't understand why the English and Italians went after Knox. I suspect it was anti-american sentiments.

Rather than being anti-American sentiments, it was likely just lazy and useless cops. They see someone easy to blame, and so don't worry about the truth.

Because everything involving Americans must be motivated by deeply held anti-American beliefs?

I guess the Brits were told by the media that she was guilty, and so they saw the attempts to exonerate her with disgust.

This sounds much more believable.

However, she also got 3 years for falsely accusing someone, what's with that?

Plus changing your story, doing cart wheels in the police station etc does make you look suspicious.
