From a point A on the unit circle lower a perpendicular onto the diameter. That segment is the sine (red).
From the center, take a perpendicular onto that first segment. That is the cosine (dark blue).
The segment that joins the extended diameter to A and touches the circle in only one point is called the tangent (brown).
The same for everything else.
Draw it a couple of times and it will remain in your head forever.

I assumed he was doing GCSE or he wouldn't be asking about trig generically. You guys are gonna scare the crap out of him with all the A'Level formulae.
