Troglodytes and Troglobites (from Very Many Questions XXXII)

Moving the thread to A&E is a death sentence. Why move it from OT once you decided to separate it?

Because I saw fit to do so. Anything else?

Meh, I've already gotten what I need.

Personally, if I'm going to carry on I never ask permission.

Tidal forces, holy stalagmites, that every living thing cycles, old faithful, and uneven time increments.

There could be a rival civilization that worships stalactites, leading to an endless religious conflict!

The war of the Mitey-Titeys. It could be a trilogy!

1) The Comrades of the Trogs
2) The Two Speleothems
3) The Return of the Holy Timekeeper

I am reminded of the planet-spanning ocean in Jupiter's atmosphere as presented in Ben Bova's novels Jupiter and Leviathans of Jupiter (the Leviathans are massive whale-like colony creatures who live in Jupiter's atmospheric oceans, and they are sentient). It's been awhile since I read those novels, so I don't remember if there was anything said about how the Leviathans keep time when they can't see the Sun and don't even know that their environment is part of a planet.

@hobbsyoyo: Do you remember if anything was said about this in Bova's novels?

Picture the stalactite worshipers' fanatical shock troops charging to the attack, clad in their holy titey-whities.

The Boxer Rebellion. Boxers or Briefs?

I like that. Or maybe they found a few that make some form of a constellation that also line up nicely once every X causing some kind of mass celebration.

I do not recall them discussing seasons but the Leviathans were very long-lived so I would not be surprised if he mentioned something about it.

Speaking of stalactites -

I knew a guy who bragged about knocking over a whole lot of them in a cave where we lived in southern Illinois. He told the story with something approaching glee; it was a highlight of his young adult years.

I hated that guy.

Those would have been stalagmites, but I hate him too.
