True Legacy Nes: Alternative Cold War

Again you speak of war. If these territories are so minor to you why the risk of war? What if Japan demanded the Phillipines as they are close to their home and your ideology threatens them? Do you really want to open that can of worms to the world? The first thing the USA does is demand war after avoiding it so much is this really the reputation you want after being so high minded as to stay out of the Great War? This is sad we a disturbed at how you quickly will war on the land of your fore fathers over such minor issues. Again Britain did not nor was going to threaten your nation or people in any way, shape, or form. Why the rediculous hostility?

Then accept the payment and we can look past this. There will be no war and everyone will be happy.

We do not want war, which is why we wanted to buy it off you, but you refused, forcing us to get aggressive, with these lands in your hands you could easily place a missile on it and threaten us.

It galls me that you cannot accept a good deal of gold but accept fighting for it.

Britain has said they do not want your gold. And again I hardly believe you would sell the Phillipines to Japan. So why are you creating a self fullfilling prohecy? If you left Britain alone after they turned you down there would be no chance of a conflict and thus no threat to your nation or people. So why do you insist on creating said threat?

To think we had been drafting an agreement to send to you and your allies regarding maintaining the peace of the world. This plan has obviously been scrapped. The great Fuhrer Heinrich Himmel had hoped to maintain the world at peace since the end of the greatest of all wars. He had hoped that since the USA stayed out of that conflict they would be honorable enough to realize that the world was stable and safe provided no one was provocative.

We also want the USA to understand that the offer to purchase the land was not the insult and disagreement here, but that the polite refusal of this offer resulted in death threats to thousands of people. Again we implore you to rethink your approach to world diplomacy.

OOC: There is now way in hell the USA would ever have done this, explain how the slight deviation in the OTL would result in this possibility? Hell the USA wouldn't sell Guam or Midway even. Nor can I imagine the blatant war mongering of the Diplomatic USA when for all intents and purposes they control 95% or more of the Western Hemisphere. I am sorry but it feels so out of character for the USA that I would imagine there would be congressional hearings right now since the statement that you would sell the Phillipines was made. I will play it out but am truly surprised. Oh well.

OOC: Our fear is rational, there is a Fascist government close to the the US where said Fascist government could place missiles within range of our cities and population. This is simply a defensive move for us, rid ourselves of a potential threat by buying the lands.

OTL example is Cuba. They did threaten to invade (and did but failed (Bay of Pigs) Cuba and the Russians did place some missiles there.

IC:

We will drop the discussion for now, while we will be monitoring the islands closely, we will not press the claim for now. But rest assured, if we see a buildup of troops, or see any missiles making its way to the island, we will once again press the claim.

OOC: Yeah the fear sure, I was meaning the selling the phillipines thing.

IC: We are glad you understand that there will be no buildup, just a minor stationing of troops, navy, and airforce to keep the peace. Surely nothing that would be a threat to the USA.

Great glad to see you have agreed. The islands will be blockaded at once and only supply ships and trade ships will be allowed through, after a thorough inspection of course.

We hope the British will inform their sailors and merchants of this event so they do not resist.

Let's just pretend that page and a half never happened shall we ;)

OOC: It seems appropriate to me. People are nervous and so are nations, let the players play it out.

Also, Hitlerslegacy, I feel the map could use a bit touching up, there's some artifacting and sometimes the territories aren't cleanly colored.

And I feel the Stability stat NEEDS reworking. While good in theory, it took EQ quite some time to work out his system around his nations - you should reduce the stability cap to 6 and throw two three-sided dice instead to accomodate the less wealthy nations. Or remove it altogether, it honestly seems unnecessary - and unfair. I don't say this out of self-interest because Japan is one of three nations that CAN afford the minimum of 9 stability to be well-assured of safety and still run an economy, but out of general interest for balance and fun.

The stability rule has been changed since I just realised that as well

"One small note: stability can be “2/2” and increase to 0/2 of the next level only if you add economy into it."

What exactly does this mean? Does that mean in order to advance to the next stability level, I will need to spend 3 Eco instead of the stated 2?

Yes, ten char

OOC: It strikes me as distinctly odd that Newfoundland has remained in British hands- in OTL it was on the verge of joining Canada, and during the war it hosted a large number of Canadian servicement and American sailors, as an important stopping point for the convoy system to Britain. I would have expected that, with the fall of Britain, the Newfoundlanders, who had fought so hard against the fascists, would have joined Canada. Considering the region's politics, and the presence of antifascist soldiers, I can hardly imagine Newfoundland not breaking away.

OOC: No, let all that diplomacy stand. It was odd, but that kinda scare happened all the time in a cold war. I am surprised at how it played out, not what I expected to happen first, but there it is.

OOC: I agree, let the diplo stand, there will be no war as it was resolved peacefully for most nations.

Also I echo Lord Iggy's statement, I strongly believed Newfoundland should have joined the Canadians. It was also the reason I started all that diplomatic flurry that you wanted to ignore.

To Afghanistan
From India

We are willing to sign a Non-Aggression pact with Afghanistan.

Why then, don't we ask the Newfoundlanders? Provide a public poll in which every person of 18 years of age can vote on staying with Britain, Joining Canada or becoming independant. I suggest the same thing with Britains Guyana territories, with instead the option of joinging Brazil instead of Canada.

Freedom

I hope, my friend, that we find you in good health. One cannot be sure these days when a friend might go missing or neighbour spirited from their home. Terrible times we live in, times we can only hope end soon. Unfortunatly the government has spies everywhere, and any hope at rebellion is nearly gone before it starts, but there is hope. Across the border lies the country of Brazil. I've heard that those living there don't live under constant fear, and that everyone up to and including their leader are accountable for their actions. People don't go mssing, and food is rarely, well rare. In addition, one of my friends who has already gone across the border told me there are jobs and houses for everyone at the factories. If one could sneak across the border, you would be welcomed with open arms and smiling faces. There we could live without fear for our children and wives. We could be safe there. I plan to leave next week. See you on the other side of the border. If one of your friends mysteriously dissapears next week, you'll know I've gone to freedom. See you on the other side of the border.

Edit: I think Brazil should be on the Short Range Missiles technology list considering we have a large quantity of those missiles.
