True Legacy Nes: Alternative Cold War

Update 3-1952

North American News Report

EASY REPUBLICAN VICTORY IN 1952. Washington, United States of America. In the Presidential Election of 1952, Republican Robert Taft of Ohio and running mate Joseph McCarthy crushed Democrat Estes Kefauver and running mate Alben Barkley. Taft and McCarthy won with former President Dewey’s popularity in his crusade to wipe out Fascism. Britain’s return to democracy was hailed as a victory for his administration, and his popular Vice President easily won the election., promising interventionist policies and fighting the Cold War overseas, and resisting fascist aggression in Europe and Asia.

AMERICA STRIKES THE CARRABEAN. Jamaica, United States of America. With a civil war going on in the United Kingdom, President Taft has ordered the securing of British possessions in the Caribbean while the British Islands are in turmoil. This has been explained to keep the stability in the British Caribbean while keeping away the fascists. This has worked well, and a small occupation force controls these islands. As of now, there is little resistance; however the Caribbean Union has asked the United States for joint occupation of these islands. It has yet to be announced the fate of the islands should there be a fascist victory.

South American News Report

BRAZIL ATTACKS ARGENTINA! Buenos Aires, the Most Serene Republic of Argentina. In her effort to liberate South America and bring them into democracy, Brazil has launched an attack against the Argentineans. Without warning, Brazilian planes and rockets attacked Argentinean air bases, crippling her air force. After the attack, Brazil launched a heavy offensive into Argentina. Even with Argentina’s superior numbers, Brazilian bombers have acted as tank busters, aiding the Brazilian offensive. So far, the lines have stabilized, with more Argentineans being brought up, including her mechanized divisions, and her air force starting to recover. For now though, Brazil holds the upper hand.
Casualties
Brazil: 6 divs regular, 70 Light Tanks, 30 Medium Tanks, 20 Prop Fighters, 5 Early Jet Fighters, 20 Short Range Missiles
Argentina: 10 divs regular, 90 Light Tanks, 40 Medium Tanks, 40 Prop Fighters, 5 Early Jet Fighters, 5 Prop Bombers

OIL IN VENEZUELA. Maracaibo, Brazil. In the newly conquered territories of Venezuela, Brazilian prospecters have found large amounts of oil throughout the territory. Many unemployed Venezuelans have taken to the Oil fields to work, and several boom towns have come up. Even some of Venezuela’s former industry has popped back up, as people hope to readjust to their pre invasion lives.

European News Report

CIVIL WAR IN GREAT BRITAIN. London, United Kingdom of England, Scotland, and Wales. With the removal of the fascist government of Great Britain, Arthur Kellington Davis has become the Prime Minister. However, very few recognize his new government, most prominently, General Lysander Sage. Several army units, air wings and ships have defected to the new fascist government, which is currently based in Scotland, led by General Sage. Though his forces are more numerous, he lacks equipment. For this, he relies on the French, who have done well in supplying him. Even with the French helping him, his last offensive has fallen short of his original goals of conquering London, as he not only did not commit enough to the offensive, he lacked air and tank superiority due to the new British jet fighter, the de Havilland Vampires. In Germany, many generals wish to send something akin to the Condor Legion, and several have offered to lead it. France, who has already sent supplies, is thinking about sending more volunteers to the fascist cause. In the United States, thousands have gathered in Washington asking President Taft to send a force to Prime Minister Davis’s government. As of now though, no major engagements have been fought and the forces seem evenly matched heading into 1953.
Casualties
Fascists: 2 div. Regular, 10 Prop fighters, 10 Light Tanks
Democrats: 1 div regular, 5 Prop Fighters, 5 Light tanks

PARIS TRIALS BRING JUSTICE TO TRAITORS. Paris, Vichy France. In Vichy France, President Pierre Laval has announced the Paris Trials in order to fully punish those who have betrayed France through Common Conspiracy Against Germany, Resistance Against the State, Collaboration with State Enemies, Contribution to the Collapse of the Third Republic, and War Crimes. Most notably tried are Léon Blum, Maurice Gamelin, Daniel Mayer, Félix Gouin, and Georges Bidault, who each were found guilty and sentenced to death. These trials, as well as the Vichy governments crack downs on the resistance have greatly increased the confidence with the government, unlike that with their British neighbours. (+1 Stability)

FRANCE: AN EMERGING POWER? Vichy, France. Though since 1941 France has been dominated by the mighty Third Reich, many point to France as a new emerging power, with the possibility of becoming the leader of a fifth power block. Afghanistan Argentina, Greater Peru, and to a lesser extent, Turkey, have begun trading with Vichy, giving agriculatural products and oil in exchange for vehicles and industrial products. This deal has worked out quite nicely, as all parties mentioned have seen immediate boosts to their wealth.

FIGHTING CONTINUES IN NORTH WEST INDIA. Delhi, India. The Indian Republic continues her third year of conflict in the North West. As this year comes, the Indian Congress has authorized the use of missiles and tanks in an effort to stamp out the Pakistanis. As of now, only a small portion of the North is even controlled by the rebels, the Pakistanis opting to engage in guerilla warfare. Afghanistan has protested India’s actions, calling for an end to the violence and for Pakistani independence.
Casualties

Asian/Pacific News Report

CEASEFIRE IN THE MAKING? Tokyo, The Empire of Japan and the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere. Lestear Pearson seems to have begun his goal to stop the fighting in China. Since he began negotiating in Japan, there has been a lack of air raids upon the Republic, and the Communists have only made minimal gains and have yet to launch an offensive. There are even rumors of a four power conference in Tokyo, as all of China waits to have her fate decided.

OOC

Slower turn, probably because my absence.

Excellent stories, I particularly enjoyed the Paris trials Carmen

@DarthNader, I'm sorry, I completely forgot about Italy, rest assured, I will mend the problem momentarily

From Vichy France
To Brazil

We highly condemn Brazil's recent acts of aggression in South America, and will not tolerate any further provocation in the region.

From Vichy France
To Fascist Britain

We will fully support you in your endeavors to regain control over the British Isles.

From Vichy France
To Germany

I request the delivery of those blueprints you promised me back in 1951.

From Vichy France
To the United States

We wish to congratulate Mr. Taft on his electoral victory and hope to normalize relations between our two countries. We do not seek war, only peace.

From The Thrid Reich
To Facist Britain

We also support you as the legitimate government in Britain and expect you to succeed in crusing these rebels.

From The Thrid Reich
To United States

We are pleased for your victory and again reiterate that to maintain normal relations would be pleasent.

We are not pleased with your grabbing of the Caribbean Isles from Britain in a time of weakness, but if you must do so then we suggest they be turned over to the Caribbean Union, or most preferentially they be given independence from any power as you so wish to liberate them.

From The Third Reich
To Vichy France

We thought those had been sent. Aw well they will be in your hands shortly and someone will be demoted.

From: United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
To: Vichy France

We demand that you stop supplying the Scottish rebels with military equipment and aid. They have rebelled against the rightly and just government of the United Kingdom and deserve nothing but imprisonment and, in the case of General Lysander Sage, death. We also condemn your diplomatic support of the illegal government in Scotland.

From: United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
To: Germany

We demand that you retire your support of the illegal government established in Scotland.

From: United Kingdom
To: Rebel soldiers

Any soldier currently serving in the rebel forces will be conceded a pardon for the crime of rebellion if they immediately join the government forces and help to defeat the rebels.

From: UK government
To: UK population

A reward of 2,000 pounds is offered for whomever brings General Lysander Sage to New Scotland Yard in London, alive or dead. He is wanted for the crimes of sedition, treason and attempt to usurping the legal government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, represented by its Prime Minister Arthur Kellington Davis.

From: United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
To: United States of America

We congratulate Mr Robert Taft for his victory in the United States presidential elections. We also thank you for keeping our possessions in the Caribbean sea away from fascist hands and hope that you will return them to use once the rebels have been defeated. Also, any help you give us in order to defeat the rebels will be welcome.

From: United Kingdom
To: Republic of Ireland

We know that there are several people that are collaborating with the rebels that have taken refuge within your lands. We ask that you return them back to British soil so that they may be judged for their crimes.

To the World
From the United States of America

To prevent international confusion or anger, the American occupation of the British possessions in the Caribbean is a defensive act to keep the Caribbean and Atlantic regions secure for the neighboring nations. Upon completion of the Civil War in England the islands will be returned. We hope this action will be respected and honored.

To Prime Minister Arthur Kellington Davis (Great Britain)
From President Taft (United States of America)

Having a wayward general is a nations worst nightmare, should you desire supplies we will gladly send some, but our troops will remain out of the conflict unless you ask for them when German or French send troops to fight you in England.

To Germany and France
From the United States of America

We hope you will continue to keep the peace and keep your troops out of England. We will defend Prime Minister Davis if you do indeed send troops, and I am sure you do not desire a war when one does not need to be fought. Simply allow England to fight out their differences themselves, just as we have all fought our own civil wars ourselves with no foreign troops assisting.

To France and Germany (again) ;)
From President Taft

Thank you for your praise, hopefully we can say the same to you when you have elections... which will probably never happen.

From The Third Reich
To The Rebels in Britain

We suggest you not rebel against your legitimate government and thus would you have avoided bloodshed among your contrymen. You preach how wonderful you are yet you shoot your fellow citizen. Do not presume to speak to us about who is the rightful government we recognize.

From The Third Reich
To USA

We are pleased you will return the islands after the war, but as stated before the US should stay out of European business and we will stay out of yours, excepting those few possesions still maintained by Britain which we already agreed would not be home to more than a token garrison to maintain the peace.

OOC: Same here, but its just like any other one party dictatorship. :p

From: the Democratic and Legal Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
To: Germany

We truly hope that whatever struck you in your head didn't leave more sequels, because you obviously don't know the real meaning of the word rebellion.
Fact: Arthur Kellington Davis was chosen as the Prime Minister by the Parliament and King Edward VIII. Even Sir Oswald Mosley, the previous Prime Minister, accepted the King's and Parliament's decision.
Fact: General Sage decided that he didn't want to serve the legal government and thus chose to fight the legal government of the United Kingdom.
Conclusion: the rebelling government is the one headed by General Lysander Sage in Scotland, not the one headed by Prime Minister Arthur Kellington Davis in London.

To: President Robert Alphonso Taft of the United States of America
From: Prime Minister Arthur Kellington Davis of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

Your support in this most trying time is very much welcomed. If you help us out with supplies we will be grateful for you.

From: United Kingdom
To: France and Germany

Any ship that attempts to deliver supplies to the rebel forces in Scotland will be boarded, its cargo seized and the ships themselves will be kept in English ports. Crews will be treated in a correct way provided that they do not attempt to fight against those guarding them. Crews and ships will be allowed to leave once the rebels are defeated.

To Brazil
From the United States of America

Your warmongering actions have us concerned, waging war and conquering Venezuela was acceptable but continuing the fight by attacking Argentina, a good friend to South American nations, regardless of government ideals or political leaders, is not a very wise decision. Already 2 nations have left the ADTO Accord and the United States is seriously considering petitioning to have Brazil booted. America will not be known to support nations who so openly declares war when negotiation is by far the more logical choice. Failing that, there is always other options, if you need an example, you just need to see how the United States handled Great Britain and the European Fascist powers.

No war broke out and already democracy is winning, not because the people fear a war with the United States, but because they see that the United States and other democratic nations would rather avoid bloodshed and use a pen and paper instead. Unlike most Fascist nations who jump to war at the slightest provocation.

So you have one year to end this war with Argentina or you will be booted upon a successful vote by members of the ADTO Accord.

To Greater Peru and Chile
From the United States of America

The Brazilian attack on Argentina did not go unnoticed by the United States, we voice our opposition as well and respect your necessity to leave the ADTO Accord. Talks are under way with the Brazilian government, but rest assured, if the talks fail Brazil will be booted out of the alliance. So with that said, America will still welcome back Chile and Greater Peru should they decide to reenter following Brazil's departure.

To Argentina
From the United States of America

You have our sympathy, we did not realize Brazil was so.... bold or reckless may I add, as we speak a detachment of our Pacific fleet has been sent to Argentina to deliver supplies and food for your people, and negotiations with the Brazilians are under way, should you desire to send a negotiator to the talks just tell our admiral and he will send you to Washington on his fastest destroyer. The United States will do all it can to ensure you keep all of your lands and are repaid for damages caused by the Brazilian armies. Even if the United States has to pay for it.

OOC:

@germanicus: Technically, we do have elections of some sort, representatives in the Council of Vichy select the leader in a vote, the leader doesn't just "pop up".

As Adrogans said, it is more of a dictatorship and the leader is picked by the council rather than the people. And a council is filled with people of the same ideals and beliefs, so really, the same party will continue to win no matter who is running.

And that is what I meant. (You could liken it to how the Pope is elected. I am sure the people would rather have a different Pope. :p)

The only problem is, you do not exactly know HOW Council members are picked, since I have not yet released that part of the Constitution yet. ;)

To Vichy France
From Brazil:
We shall keep that in mind. However despite the fact that Greater Peru and Chile have left ADTO, we shall not attack their borders within the near future.

To Great Britain
From Brazil:

You have our full support in your conflict against the rebels. Following the conculsion of our conflict with Argentina, we shall see what aid we can give you.

To United States
From Brazil:
We do not inheirit the earth from our ancestor's, we borrow it from our children. And look at how many of our children are in places such as Argentina, poor, hungry and cold. Should we not do what we can? Look at Venezuela, it is already springing back after the war, with the people there looking at a rapidly improving lives. But we have no intention of sparking another world war, so Chile and Greater Peru shall not be harmed.

To Argentina
From Brazil:

WE would accept peace under the following conditions:

Brazil keeps what land she has gained

Argentina's Leadership will step down in favour of a democratic election, with international observers for this one, and the one after to endure the election remains fair and untainted.

From Vichy France
To Brazil

We highly condemn this method of democratic blackmail, coercion, and aggression displayed by the Brazilian government. As such, formal diplomatic relations are to be cut with Brazil and Vichy France until such a time that Brazil is willing to return to a peace without concessions. We have withdrawn our diplomats and the Brazilian Embassy staff in Paris have been given tickets to Switzerland until such a time Brazil is willing to talk of a real peace.

Any further attempts at contact will be ignored.

OOC@carmen510- Condone means 'offer your support'. :p

To: Brazil
From: Canada

We strongly recommend that you drop the clause of your proposed peace treaty pertaining to the annexation of Argentine lands- it will only breed revanchism in Argentina, and push the population- if an election should take place- towards more hawkish politics.

To: Japan and the Chinas
From: Canada

We are heartened to see a lull in fighting. At this point, I suggest that we push for negotiations and a formal conclusion to this conflict.

To: Brazil
From: Argentina

Your actions will not go unpunished. For every Argentinian killed in this war Brazil will pay. As no diplomacy was received before the war Brazilian expansionism is clear. Your desire to remove the good Spanish speaking people from South America will not go unpunished.

To: Greater Peru, Chila
From: Argentina

It is clear the Brazilian government wants not peace but expansion at the expense of the Spanish speaking nations of South America. If Argentina falls Brazil's gaze will surely fall upon your nations. The time has come to rise up against Brazilian attempts for domination to ensure the stability of South America for all time.

To: USA
From: Argentina

We thank the USA for their support. Any aid that can be sent will be greatly appreciated. We will not attend these peace talks until the war mongering Brazilians show themselves willing to come to terms with their actions.

To: France, Germany (Fascist powers)
From: Argentina

Any assistance that can be provided whether it be volunteers, supplies or technology will be greatly appreciated. The corrupt Brazilian government has shown itself to desire nothing but war and further territory ignoring any and all attempts for peace and diplomacy.
