Two bomb blasts during the Boston Marathon

And today, the man who has poked 17 people in the eye in a horrific pre-meditated incident has been sentenced to 5 fingers in the eye. "These 5 fingers should ensure that the perpetrator of these horrific crimes is blind for the rest of his life. After many months of legal and moral quandry, we have come to the conclusion that this is the most satisfying course of action."

A firing squad is a suitable end given the alternative was life imprisonment at Gitmo.
At least he received a fair trial as a US citizen under Obama.

Do you have a source for that number? I'm always looking for one and would greatly appreciate it.
Here is a Fivethirtyeight article about police killings which links a couple of reports including a BJS document. It estimates the number of annual police killings to be about 1240, from 930 reported killings and an assumption that police departments that do not report killings in either of the two reports available (about a quarter of the total) kill as often as those that do.

Unfortunately the "known flaw" in the estimation method is glaringly large, but no one can guess how large. In short, the estimated number continues to grow...and is still acknowledged as undershot by some unknown but substantial amount.

Thanks for the link though. It's encouraging that actual government agencies are at least finally working on the problem...at least to the extent of trying to quantify the problem.

Ok, so are there any quotes by the now found guilty person?
The lawyers argued that the brother was 'the driving force', but was there proof provided for that?

Because one was into partying, drinking, into going out, doing well for himself and had no criminal record, while the other was unemployed, religious, violent and was prime suspect in a murder.

I have to suppose that those two types were there in the Boston marathon more than just once...

What i asked was on what evidence the defence lawyers made the claim that the bombing was organised by the older brother. And more crucially, what did the younger brother say on this :)

Except lethal injections is more of a slow and painful form of quick and easy...

Lethal injection typically first puts the person to sleep so presumably there is no pain. In a bare handful of instances, the drugs were injected into soft tissue instead of a vein and that's where problems occur.

Lately, botched executions have been on the rise as the states are using a shaky substitute for drug #1 of the protocol now that the first 2 ideal choices are not on the market.

Or maybe this fit better in the racism thread. Either way, interesting point.

Maybe he had better lawyers.

But personally, I would have had no problems had a jury sent him to death row as well.

Tsarnaev is rather white. He's literally Caucasian, after all.

But regardless of what feels good, we need to ask ourselves whether there's any sense at all in killing him. What's that supposed to do, deter would-be martyrs?

Not that Tsarnaev seems to have wanted to be a martyr, of course. The scared kid ran off and hid inside a boat.

Why does it matter to you whether the lethal injection causes pain or not?

Or does it matter to you?

You just want to off the guy, don't you? What difference does it make how you do it?

Just because I think a rabid dog needs to be put down doesn't mean I want it done slow....causing pain isn't a requirement of the desired end result.

Given the prior posts, I read this as a "fingering squad" until I looked back again.

Thanks for this article, I've been looking for this kind of info as well and it's hard to come across.

That just sanitizes the act for the audience.

That or Republicans in Georgia and Alabama side with the idea of ending abortion and homosexuality. To be serious though it likely that the Federal government under Obama may choose life imprison for Tsarnaev.
All bets are off if Republicans win the white house.
