UKIP go from strength to strength

That renders most threads here lose-lose.

As I understand it, I think Miliband's backed out anyway.

.@Nigel_Farage Bring it on. I look forward to a debate with you, @David_Cameron and @Nick_Clegg in the election campaign.

I think that's a no, anyway. But then I read it another way and it's a "yes, let's invite you to the leaders debate" A blog at The Spectator says its a no, though

...incidentally, does anyone know how to copy and paste a tweet?

Miliband is worried that Farage will destroy him in the debate, as he should be worried.

Populists don't need to worry about being fair, accurate or even polite; they just need to appeal to the masses in whatever way possible. Debates are the best way to do that.

What's this? Quackers complains about British/English culture becoming ever more American and then he uses Kumbaya?
Could [Farage] be more obnoxious?
Oh yes, he definitely could.

Miliband is the leader of the opposition, a senior politician, has been an MP for a several years, and is possibly the next PM.

To address him as a simple member of the public is to deliberately ignore all that. I wouldn't make too much of it myself, but that's the way it comes across.

It wouldn't be so bad if Farage had signed himself in like terms.

He addressed Ed Miliband as if he were a private citizen, rather than the leader of the Labour Party, yet sent the letter on UKIP-headed paper and signed it explicitly as the leader of UKIP. There was no mention of Miliband's political credentials whatsoever, which could be easily read as demeaning. There'd be absolutely no difference if he was sending it to me, except that I can't be reached via Labour HQ (not that you'd know where that was without prior knowledge or Google).

Even a simple "The Rt. Hon. Edward Miliband, MP" would have sufficed to show him the barest courtesy, something which was apparently beyond Mr Farage's typewriter.

I don't see how that is being "obnoxious," Miliband is also an ordinary British subject and human being. If these are the things you have to worry about, then you must live a pretty easy life.

Well, in that case I suppose the niceties of polite society and etiquette escape you.

Rule number 1: treat others how you would like to be treated yourself. If Farage wants to be considered, and signs himself, as "MEP and leader of UKIP", he should treat his interlocutor in like fashion.

Traitorfish is a far-left socialist anarchist. Basically a Marxist.
Aw, c'mon, that ain't fair. Anarchists are supposed to be to the left of Marxists. You should be saying "far-left Marxist, basically an anarchist". This way it makes me sound like some kid in a Crass t-shirt. :undecide:

“Mr Edward S. Miliband”? So Farage wrote a letter as if to a private citizen, but then signed it as if the writer was anything but? Could he be more obnoxious?
He's got a six-month run-up to the election, I think that's a given.

Maybe, but it's still a non-issue to complain about.

No, it's not. UKIP is all about traditional Englishness/Britishness, and politeness even to those you despise is a basic thing.

Heh... when you instruct at Sandhurst you have to call the cadets 'sir', which sharpens wonderfully your skills of making a term of respect sound like a grave insult. If you do it well enough they'll never quite be at ease when anyone calls them 'sir' again.

I don't think we are getting that bent out of shape about it, but simply remarking that it would have been better if either he went full-formal using titles for both himself and Millibrand, or casual where he went without titles for both.

Farage obliterates angry Channel Four presenter.

Honestly guys, if you were stuck on the side of the road with a broken car the only political leader you would want to see coming to your side would be Farage. He would probably have an emergency pint in hand to calm you down. #manofthepeople

Farage wards off dangerous, smelly, ginger, bearded man and yet again saves another small English town:

And what's so bad about having red hair? Is it un-English? I get the distinct sensation that you despise anyone who does not look like you.
