Malón Raider (Mapuche) - 20 Mamluk (Arabia) – 28 (27+1) --- The ultimate early-mid/mid game empire builders are 5 or more Mamluk and an apostle with the chaplain promotion. They are also highly mobile relative to other UU infantry choices allowing you to get to new cities faster (ie. before your advantage is marginalized by improved garrison strengths). They can conquer a walled city without a siege tower which serves only to not only slow your movement but slow the rate at which your units are able to throw themselves against early-mid/mid game city walls and accumulate experience (affording you yet MORE regeneration/healing). Final word, upgrades to tank.

Eagle Warrior (Aztec) - 32 Garde Imperiale (France) - 8 (11-3) Just not very useful in most cases. A defense oriented unit later in the game? Being later is already a disadvantage, but limiting it's strength to the home continent holds it back. The Digger was a better UU than this imo.

Hypaspist (Macedon) - 14 Immortal (Persia) – 6 (5+1) It seems that units I like are generally doomed to the echo chamber of death. Here's why the immortal deserves our upvotes. It's an archer that benefits from oligarchy stacking, which can make for some seriously powerful ranged attacks. Comes early enough to be devastating. Combined with Fall of Babylon this unit can get in just the right spot where it needs to be, and comes before you generally need siege units, so you can compose an entire army out of them with a horseman or chariot thrown in to take cities. Ranged power is where it's at. Also if you get the promotion that lets you shoot twice then oligarchy stacking gets really devastating. The lack of a melee attack is not much of a problem because they are so beefy. Should not be circling the drain while the samurai is still in.

Redcoat (England/Victoria) - 19 Samurai (Japan) - 8 (11-3) This unit is here because we forgot about it, and also because we want it to be good. It is not. The samurai is barely better than the Khevasur and Berserker which have been eliminated long ago. Leaf tech, can't be upgraded into, not better than knights, ect. The samurai is better than the other maceman units, but not by much.

Ngao Mbeba (Kongo) - 18 Pítati Archer (Nubia) - 32 (31+1) There are a few other units I enjoy using, but this one is still the most powerful. It has so many uses. 3 moves allow it to move on hills/woods/jungle and still shoot. That makes it unkillable by most melee units and it can tear through anything up until knights. Even against knights, they are effective if in city/encampment and will likely have double attack by then. They're also very effective at chasing down stragglers, killing barb, and scouting. Also build fast. It's more or less a perfect unit.
Redcoat (England/Victoria) - 19 Samurai (Japan) - 5 (8-3) Never built one of these. They come too late to be any good.

Ngao Mbeba (Kongo) - 18 Pítati Archer (Nubia) - 33 (32 + 1) This one is just fantastic. Enters the game early, stronger than the already good regular archer, and much faster, which is a huge tactical advantage. On top of that, it synergizes with the Nubian abilities. Nubia can build this archer faster than other civs can build regular ones, and they will level up more quickly. It should also get points for just being an archer replacement. I have yet to play a game where archers did not come into play, and usually, they play an important part.

Conquistador (Spain) - 22 Cossack (Russia) - 23+1=24 Utterly unstoppable, can strike a town from the fog, raize it, and move out again with the "move after attacking" ability before the other guy can even react. Only drawback is that they come very late into the game. If Russia survives to this point in a multiplayer game it's pratically GG
De Zeven Provinciën (Netherlands) - 26
Domrey (Khmer) - 19 Eagle Warrior (Aztec) - 33-3=30 getting waaay to much love here, in multiplayer they are just a more expensive Warrior that is only useful if you start within 10 tiles of someone.
