Unit Discussion/Previews

Uni holidays and back to unit creation!

Finished up the wolf scout and long fang, but i'm going to redo the attacks for the blood claw and grey hunter, and finish the wolf lord then release them as a pack.

preview is of the wolf scout, and the other is a new vindicare assassin to replace the recolouring of the sniper unit i did before

Thanks guys

I'm halfway through the Wolf Lord, and might give the Wolf Guard and Rune Priest a go after. The Wolf Guard is gonna be based on a termie, but what about the rune priest? i was thinking pistol and axe for the weapons, and maybe an aaglo-like 'earthquake' attack for the jaws of the wild wolf, or whatever the psychic power's called

Animated previews of the wolf lord and vindicare assassin, and a civ pic of the catachan sniper

i'm planning on doing an urban version (grey camo) and a more "everyday" type of sniper for others to use for modern scenarios and stuff, which will be like the vindicare, except with an earpiece and mike and no helmet. unless the sniper rifle is a bit too sci-fi for a modern unit? all snipers would have the same animations

From uni to units... I hope you do as well in university as you do here :)

Have run into some problems with the chaos termie: it seems that bits and pieces are not correctly attached to other bits (e.g. the feet arent attached to the legs). so i'm leaving it for now

but, i come with some good news too :)

a grey knight to replace the recolouring i did a while ago

I have been able to work with converting units from Dawn of War 2 (thanks to nick0515 for pointing it out); so if you think any of those units are needed, I can do some of the conversions. I'm not really familiar with the units in particular, so you may need to let me know what is what; or what is needed, I do see the list you have posted, so I could work off that as well.

Such as here is the avatar from eldars (or elders? ;))

AvatarDoW2.jpg

Seems many of the unit meshes don't actually have anything to them (as the above avatar unit does have everything); and that it is required to 'clothe them' if you will with whatever objects they use. So it seems pretty easy to customize them with the tools available. The animations are plentiful also.

All in all, these seem as if they are very easy to do, and civ colors can be added; so I can start with any you may need.

EDIT: Almost any unit combination seems possible, and then I can just render in 3ds. Only thing is, I'm not familiar with what items go with what to make what units! The DoW2 Model Editor is really simple to 'create units' which can then be exported for 3ds to render, but the variables of pieces that can be put together are mind-boggling huge; seems almost anything is possible. Do you have DoW2? It seems there is a demo available that I probably could have gotten instead, but oh well. I picked it up since from looking online it was very clear that conversions were definitely 100% possible.

If you have it, you could perhaps make the correct models (by attaching the right pieces; simple to do) and save them (in the DoW2 Model Editor) and send them to me, and I could render them and give them back to you. Or anyone could do this that knows the units better than me.

As can be seen, you just pick the pieces to add to the model (like Missile Launcher Rare) and it puts them in, then you Save Set and the set can be sent to me. I can then render the model in 3ds and the unit is done. Pretty simple ;) I just threw the guy above together as an example, he probably isn't a real unit, wrong head, body and weapon.

Or if I can get pics to know what they look like, I could find the right pieces myself.. might be easier. I could probably google them.

I'll go ahead and do Avatar of Khaine as a test run. I believe he is pretty big, so I will make his size accordingly and add a bunch of fiery flame effects.
EDIT: (Let me know if you are even going to be using Eldars)

Well, if I go to do a unit that I am unsure of what it looks like, I can always ask you for some pics of it (to make sure pics I get are correct); and then I think I can probably handle digging around the different armor pieces and such to put the right units together. But if you can get ahold of Dow2 you can see what it has in there in the Editor to use exactly what you want or need and then you could send me the saved .modelset files (that the editor lets you save).

Either way ;)

:eek::clap::bowdown::woohoo::wow::band::banana:
I had no idea that this was still being worked on and that so many amazing units were being made. I should have checked this forum a long time ago. LMR your units look fantastic!!!

Where is the mod at anyway? Is there other work that needs doing, other than units? I'm keen to get involved with this project, though my civ time is pretty limited these days and my graphics skills are a bit limited too.

I've played 40K a bit (Ultramarines) but I'm a bit of a newb at it.

Tom that conversion looks great! I didn't realise units were still being made for the mod when I suggested you do some conversions but anyway the more you can convert the faster the mod can get done. Takes some preasure of LMR, too.

Cheers,

Nick

@tom: That looks great! only problem i have is that the flames shouldnt be causing shadows ;) but thats not a biggy.

what factions are in DoW2? it might be best to convert units that i dont already have a model for, or that i've found too difficult

@ nick: It's still alive; i guess its sort of comatose at the moment. when aaglo was more active he churned out units like a machine, but I'm the only one making units currently (until now :)) Its slowly getting finished: all the ork units are done, the imperium (marines chapters, guard and witch and daemon hunters) are nearly finished (about 75%)

We'll need ideas and graphics for buildings and techs, civilopedia entries and stuff like that, but there is no rush at the moment since progress is slight
