Unit requests thread

My eyes .

I don't really get this
Why would having genitalia on a unit would be against the forum rules, while posting those pictures here (in the post before yours) is not against them?

Let's say i'm using the discretion i have here :D.
Everyone who has posted in here has said, that this thing is not a big deal. Including me. I would react in another way if it was not okay for me.
Since i see to where this is going, i feel that temporary bending the rules a bit is not a big problem.
I just don't want at the end a thread with the name "Download naked men (including genitalia) here", because that could draw some attention, so it would be problematic, but currently it's burried deep in a long, long thread, and only for a short time...no one cares.

Also, I remember a mod in the front page a few months ago, maybe that's the mod you are talking about (IIRC it was a total conversion of Alpha Centaury)
Anyway, the mod only covered the genitalia in the pics which were on the front page, but the mod itself still had nudity in it.

...um...i'm not sure if that was meant in this way...going to ask again.

Woah! I certainly would do no such thing. I am not a young man who gets kicks out of creating naked little units or posting such threads as you describe. I am a professional that works in a career that requires strict ethics and integrity. I know you do not know this and you have to protect the forum... I am just informing you that this is NOT what this is about!

It was simply the development of some historically correct and authentic units for a new civ that tries to be historically accurate as much as possible. I assure you that from me, you will NEVER see such a crude posting. That is why I have accepted your decisions even though I do not agree. I am also not a nudist or someone that needs to stand up for nudist rights  I am just a fan of ancient history, and in particular my ancestral history... thats all.

Thanks :)
Not to nitpick though, but is there a way that I could get the Oromo Warrior head on it to?
:twitch:

Well, here you go, new old head as wanted. :)
Ah you are a star, the new UV map and texture layout is a big help!! I think those areas still need to be lowered a little bit more. Graphically, even with trousers or underwear on, those areas look a bit high  I think it is the mesh underneath the torso and legs that needs to come down a bit so that the body geometry is correct. But it is looking a lot better in game. I won't post any pics just yet.

This particular axemen needs a sqaure Buckler shield as per the illutration above, of the blue woad Pict running into battle naked apart from the Pictish Axe and Sqaure Buckler. Any ideas where we might find such a sqaure shield? I have searched and searched but cannot find anything we can borrow from another unit. Closest I can see is the rectangular shield of the Sumerian Vulture, but it has bobbles on it that would need to come off.
I've moved the parts further down again, hopefully now everything is at the place it should be. ;)

I've also exchanged the shield with a custom shield I made with Blender. Of course you'll have to add the texture, I've only created colored areas in the new dds file to help you putting everything in the right place. Tell me how you like it. :)

OMG you are amazing dude!! :goodjob: You created a Pictish 'H' Shield!! I was going to ask if that was possible at some point as the various Spearmen used these shields... (used for the javelineer unit). It enables one to peer over the top a little better. Wow, awesome. I will texture this too. :goodjob:

The square buckler shield I meant was this one: (moderators - Please accept apologies for reposting this pic.) It is a handheld buckler, so as you can see via the illustration, its pretty small. Used as an offensive weapon, just as much as it is for defense. Picts favoured speed over power, they found normal shields too heavy for their guerrilla tactics.

I will adjust my textures for the human model, but should be pretty much finished and ready to change skin tone and add tats and woad.

Ah, a little misunderstanding, but since you want that H shield anyway it's luckily no problem. I've now created you a square buckler, too. I hope I got the size right.

btw, Anaerin, could you post the finished pictish swordsmaster so I can use it my mod please! (I don't know if you did texturing?)

The cloth on post 4098 is great colouring btw, did you keep it?

Excellent, will texture this too. Your help in constructing these units has given me the inspiration and creative freedom to make the units a little more authentic. Cheers! Got some exciting ideas ;)

Hey j_mie6, would like you to use this guy, but was kinda hoping to release all these guys in one Pictish mod rather than individually at first. It will be worth waiting for. It is an ongoing project but shouldn't be too much longer. If it does take a bit too long then I will upload the Swordsmaster for you, but would prefer to have it complete, then you can test it out and pick what you like from it.

The texturing isn't totally finished. I want to redo a couple of things on the Swordsmaster. I want to re-texture all the early units so that they look like one tribal group. Now that I am doing the muscle textures for the naked Brave unit, I want to use that body texture for all. Not sure if I am going to keep that cloth, it was an official tartan that I just changed the hue/saturation and it looked kinda cool. I will include it as a variation if I don't keep it. :)

I can't wait to see all of these units, when do you guys plan on uploading them and how many do you have so far?

I am glad you are excited about them, I am really enjoying the process of creating them with SaibotLieh. Have replaced all units now, but want to do redo quite a bit of the artwork. Will probably upload the ancient units in a mod, followed by a version 2 with new artwork for the modern units included. Hoping to release in 4-6 weeks.

hmmm, we will have to see if I am done in 4 -6 weeks :P I could be...

I've now created you a square buckler, too. I hope I got the size right.

Hey SaibotLieh. Size is great but might need a couple of changes if they are possible.

1. There seems to be a shine on the shield which I cannot find a 'gloss' file for, so no matter what I texture, the shield looks funny. Is that a Nifskope thing?

2. The size is great, but I wonder if the corners could be rounded just a little so they are not so pointed like a perfect square? If its too much work - don't worry :)

3. The square bobble in the middle is a metal punching thingy (I don't know what they call it), it protudes from the shield for punching the enemy. It is a 'rounded square' like the shield.

Would it be possible to make it protude from the shield?... might be possible by duplicating the shield, strecthing it and then scaling down and adding it to the centre of the shield??? If so, that could be done twice as it has a square metal base plate that is quite thin (i could just do that as a graphic texture) and then another smaller square protruding from that.

4. The texture .dds ... is it possible to have the texture for the shield as a whole rather than mirrored. So, rather than a rectangle that is mirrored on the shield, it would just be a whole square for the front and a whole square for the back... same for the punching bobble thingy. This would help me create better textures if possible.

Thanks :)

I have been searching for authentic looking Pictish axes. I can find a couple of things that look close, which could do, but as we have been making progress in making these units look authentic, it would be great to have a couple of authentic looking axes... IF possible!

There are three types of Pictish axe. 1. A hatchet Axe. 2. T-Bar Axe. 3. Square-head Axe.

There are going to be a couple of different axemen, so it would be really cool if there could also be a couple of different axes to make the units look a little different. I have an idea how one axe could be changed into a Pictish hatchet axe if it is not too difficult.

I have enclosed the axe and some photo's of Pictish axes (T-bar and hatchet), as well as an illustration on the possible change for this one. Also included an illustration of the square buckler.

Still looking for something that looks close to a square-headed Pictish axe.

Should all be no problem. There are two possibilities for the gloss part. I can remove the gloss or I can add a gloss mad that you'll have to modify to fit to the texture dds. The same must be decided for the axe.

I'll see what I can do. At least the model you've posted should be doable.

If you could create a gloss.dds for the axe and shield that I can then alter, that would be great... Not sure what the 'mad' is. If I am just a bit mixed up on this, then remove the gloss for now... this particular buckler is made of wood and painted, so the only part that is glossy is the metal centre.

I found another axe that might be less work, retrieved from a militia unit. It might be easier to alter this one - enlcosed.

If too much work, don't worry about it! :)

Ah, I meant to write map. I'll see about the axes and the gloss files. :)

Okay, here is your next instance of the axeman. Modified shield and new axe, both with a seperate 64*64 dds texture file and a same-sized gloss file.

So, I'm making a mod with strange pre-combustion machines in it, and I'd like to see a Da Vinci-style glider. Something like this:

oh, Assassins Creed flashbacks.... NOOOO Don't die Moncenigo!!! (that mission involved that exact glider btw)

Hey there. That shield is looking good!! :goodjob: Only a slight change... can the centre metal square punch be slightly larger, and also protude slightly more?

I am tryin to alter the axe to make a little more like a Pictish hatchet... never thought I would say 'I wish I had a PC'... but blender is so painful on Mac, keeps crashing and is very buggy... so taking a long time but looking good. Might need some help cleaning it up after though. :)

EDIT: extra image, showing original square buckler shield. The centre metal punch is a good size on that one!! :)

So I finally made the Pictish hatchet. I know little about blender as it doesnt really work right on my Mac, so I think it might need a professional's check over to see if all os ok. Took bloody ages making it

Wanted to make a Pictish squarehead axe blade too as it is a very unique looking axehead, but I feel it may be beyond both my current 3D skillset and application stability

If all is ok with it, could we use this to replace the axe?

Cheers SaibotLieh! :)
