Unit requests thread

Question: Does anyone know of a mod where there is a Roman civ, with every single unit being Roman instead of being the standard civ4 units?

roman skinned or unique units for every standard?

roman skinned or unique units for every standard?

Either I guess. I mean every single unit looks Roman, whether skinned that way, or using Roman unique units for each unit... Not including modern units, just ancient through industrial. ????

Mine has unique for everything, bar settler and worker, which are standard greco-roman

Thanks again! Good to have you be a part of it! :D

I have put together the first version of the Menu Screen (and loading screen), enclosed for your viewing :)

Thinking of an idea for the next Pict Brave Unit... There are two units we could create out of one...

1. Pict Brave with twin Hatchet Axes (as held by the Pict Brave with the square shield).
2. Pict Brave with a Pictish Sword in right hand and Pictish Hatchet in the left hand

... after artworking/skinning, they will look quite different, though they would use the same animations and mesh...

However, I'm not sure how possible this unit will be. It would involve using the basic Brave body you created and attaching it to the Beserker Scout animations (created by GarretSidzaka).

If it is possible with not too much work on your behalf, then it would be a two handed unit, that would have slightly different fighting animations to the Swordsmaster we created, thus keeping the Swordmaster unique.

If it is possible, I wonder if it would also be possible to have a more natural at ease stance... as the basic Beserker stance is hunched over and seems quite odd (but maybe ok for a Viking )

What are your thoughts? (file attached)
If its too much work, no worries, I can think of something else.
Sounds good so far, I was able to nifswap the Javelineer mesh to the Berserker animation with no problems. I also bended the skeleton quite a bit with dummynodes to give the unit a more natural stance. Seems to be working in the idle position, but all other positions might look a bit strange now. I've attached both the unbended and the bended unit, just have a play with both. :)

Also good news about getting NifSkope working on your Mac. This should enable you to have more direct control over the units. Swapping weapons for example is relative easy and it helps with skinning as well since one can directly investigate the texture on the mesh. And once you know a bit more, quite some niffty things are possible. For example, to create this Pictish "Berserker" and the bended version of it, I solely used NifSkope.

Anyone feel like team-coloring some Turbans for me? I think the whole community would appreciate it too... these are Bakuel's units BTW, and they should be useable as UUs. Think about it...

EDIT: Or, to whomever takes this up, you could team-color whatever you'd like so long as it is obvious and makes sense.
Here you go. I also shadered them while I was at it. :)

Awesome! Thanks a lot Sai. Any shot you could do this too?

I must be way out of practice because I am simply trying to put Bakuel's Mamluk "Egyptian Rifleman (Sudanese)" on a Cavalry unit (i.e. to be the rider) and I can't figure it out. I changed the names of the nodes but it seems there is a missing node on the Cavalry unit (Pelvis). Could anybody either tell me what to do or do this for me?

Pretty please!?

No problem. :)

Can you upload the units? Then I can take a look at them.

Here they are! Good luck, I got it to "work" by renaming some of the nodes, but the guy wound up looking "squished" (if that makes sense), so hopefully you can get a better result. And when you do let me know how you went about it.

EDIT: and to be clear I want the Rifleman to become the Cavalry rider.

Okay, here you go.

I tried a nifswap, but the bones are just too different. In the end I renamed the bones of the infantry to Bip01, loaded it with Blender and then loaded the cavalry as well and put the infantry mesh in the cavalry rider mesh position. Some smaller adjustment had to be done, done so with posing. The exported mesh I then nifswapped into the cavalry nif. :)

Also shadered and teamcoloured the unit while I was at it. ;)

I wanted to try a few changes in NifSkope and post back here, but its been a few days and I am still trying to figure out how NifSkope works... quite frustrating :(

I have tried the unit in game, the more natural stance seems better, though I have been trying to figure out how to drop the arms so they are relaxed by the side (like the other axeman brave unit)... but can't figure it out... can't seem to swap the axe's for the Pictish hatchet either lol, its been driving me insane :crazyeye: Am sure I will figure it oot eventually.

In game the unit does look kinda weird when he attacks, not sure if this is something that can be improved upon. If I have any luck figuring this out I'll post back here.

No worries. It takes some time to get used to, but then NifSkope is quite helpful.

Did you try some of the NifSkope tutorials from the Civ4 forum so far?

I expected as much. With the dummy nodes I inserted in the skeleton of the unit, I bend the unit so that he stands more natural. However, this also means that, for example, if there is an animation where the Berserker streches his back, the new unit will bend accordingly to far behind.

Altogether thus a rather dirty fix of the problem. Creating or modifying the animations would be better, but also much more work.

quoting myself here after some months. maybe this time I have more luck :)

I searched everywhere, but couldn't find an SAS Commando model in the uniform they are best known in (through online games, Counter Strike mostly :D ): completely black with a gas mask.

The closest I can think of is the Navy Seal model as the base, with a black texture like in this pack by mechaerik for example (2nd picture bottom right, Modern Infantry folder):

Weapon could be replaced by Mp5. And instead of the nightvision goggles, a gas mask should be added. That just makes the SAS! :D

For example this Stalker unit by asioasioasio has a gas mask:

Maybe mechaerik and asio³ allow the use of their work for this unit (and if no other copyrights affected). That would be awesome!

I was wondering if you can skin some futuristic units like cyborgs and androids.

Still looking for a Schooner, Sloop, Brig or Clipper. I want something that the Caravel can upgrade to before Submarines. I suppose I could use the same graphic but that would be dull. Did someone create one that's not in the Downloads section?

There is art for a clipper but it doesn't seem to be available for download on its own. You can find it in my mod (in my signature). I don't recall where I found it.

In addition, I think in the Religions and Revolution Mod for Colonization there are some sailing ships converted from Pirates.
