Yes, but could they throw spears?;)

Of course!! :)

A very powerful upper torso combined with a more robust foramen magnum (the hole where the spine joins the skull) would have given a LOT more power to their throws!! :D

Mr Bag Sir, I have another suggestion for your expanision pack.

tech: Intelligent design
enables the civic Theomocracy: -25% :science: -3:health: -3:gp: in all cities. The Genetics tech cannot be researched, if Genetics has been researched it is removed along with all techs for which it is a requirement.

The Intelligent design tech cannot be researched but will appear as a random event in the modern or future era. This immediately makes the civ adopt Theomocracy.
In order to change civics again (so as not to run Theomocracy) the civ needs to reasearch Genetics (see above).:hammer2: :yup:

I've got some interesting papers here claiming that Neanderthals survived up to around 1000 years ago in northern europe, that the Sphinx is meant to represent the cross-breeding between Cro-Magnon and Neanderthal and that Europeans are a branch of humanity that bred with Neanderthals...

Spearthrower, I'd love to see those papers, or a link that tells more, if you wouldn't mind.

Yes. I did just delurk after a several month long hiatus to ask a question that has absolutely nothing to do with Civilization. I beg the group's forgiveness and freely submit to the ritual flogging.

Marc

Hmmm not sure how I can get these papers down the wire tmarcl :D - unless you happen to be in Bangkok? :).... I don't have any links whatsoever, these are all PhD papers from my colleagues or from friends I met when studying Anthropology who continued in the field. The only electronic ones I have, I can't distribute until they are published.

Ok, I freely admit that the last one is my own (re resident populations of archaic hominids breeding with incoming cro-magnon and homo sapiens sapiens - thereby creating morphological differences between modern humans), but hey, I spent many years researching it, so while I can't unequivocably prove it, I do stake my minor reputation on it! :)

PM me if you want to discuss it?

I have another idea:

The Emascuation tech which enables the national wonder Royal Harem.

Mister Bag, I have to compliment you. I started reading it and my BS-detector went off, but then you inter-spliced enough "serious" stuff that I would doubt myself and think "Maybe he's serious..."

It wasn't until about the end that I finally figured out that it really was a joke. Well-played, sir, well-played indeed!

Why is there no terrorist unit in CIV...?
There is Privateers, so...

Well they couldn't. Those laywers would get pretty issed if they were in there.

Wonders:
Spodek.
Costs 300 :hammers:
double production speed with coal
2 :culture: Inspires National Pride

Civics:
Free Speech and Free Religion now have no upkeep costs.

Miscellaneous:
Combat odds:
It will now be highly improbable that you will lose 99.9% battles

New unit:
Civ1 Spearman
2:strength: 1:move:
requires Hunting & Copper
+5000% vs. Tanks

:spear:

I'm not offended, just fed up. Jokes about a particular group of people are funny at first. After 4 years, they are just unoriginal lip-service to a certain idea of France that is full of prejudices.
And compared to blonde jokes, I don't like the ignorance that French jokes contribute to spread.

But french are fun too make fun of. Partly cause they're so liberal, partly cause they don't complain. Try making a joke about greek people. You will be shot in you bed.

I like the idea of the Neaderthal empire. Perhaps they could be Industrious/Philosophical, UU Spearthrower :p +2 First Strikes, UB Great Campfire, replaces obelisk 3 :culture: (because there'll be heaps of cool stories told about Mastodons and Sabre Tooth Tigers)
Leader Conan?
or Sebastian Chabal ?

I've also been thinking about a wonder in the Civ 3 vein, kind of like the Cure for Cancer but I'd call it the "Cure for 'one more turn'". Obviously has a good synergy with the Civ Franchise.

Yeah why don't you program the wonder, so that it will crash the game once it is build and then deinstall CIV automatically. Maybe also format c:\

I know. French jokes are actually quite common where I live too.
The thing on Internet board is that it is always the SAME joke: a reference about their military losts, which I think is a sad misrepresentation of French history. They actually won so many wars and battles that I found it a injustice to their history (I study history, so disinformation on history somehow touches a nerve once in a while).

Also, there are many other things that are funny about France.
Their bureaucracy is a phenomenon to behold. Seriously, this is .
Protests and strikes are so commonplace that some form of public service is probably always unavailable. yep, Frenchmen are rarely afraid to hit the street and protest if they need to. That is both a blessing and a curse I think. Well, at least, it is much better than apathy.
They have an awesome capacity to talk about stuff they know nothing about and it still sounds intelligent at first glance.
They have a very odd taste for some cheesy tv shows and/or type of humor.
They have an odd and very annoying taste for abbreviations when they speak.
They have an intense and irrational interest toward Native american people...
Their sense of hierarchy is so acute.
French students are often highly obsessed by the titles of their papers and the titles of all the sub-parts of their papers. I've seen a French guy spending literally HOURS searching for a perfect title for the last part of his paper.
Many will mention arrogance. Parisian can be very arrogant, that is true. However, go outside Paris and they really are very welcoming and nice people.

Of course this is just generalization.

I'll concede that some of these cultural traits can only be perceived by people who understand French or who are somehow influenced by France (it goes without saying that Quebec is influenced by France, since both speak French...).
