There has been a whole lot of election '04 talk in Off Topic, which made me think about this one. Since this event happened in the past, I posted it in World history (made sense to me).

Who would you vote for in the election of 1912 for President of the United States? Please try not to consider 'future' events, but what was going on at that time.

Given:
You are a NATIVE US citizen
You meet the criteria to vote
It's the year 1912 (obviously)

Your choices:
Woodrow Wilson of New Jersey (Democratic Party)
William Howard Taft of Ohio (Republican Party)
Teddy Roosevelt of New York (Progressive Bull Moose Party)
Other/ I wouldn't vote

The only reason I want you to be a native US citizen is because I don't want people saying 'well this guy was like this to my country.' The United States is your country in this scenario.

If the me of 1912 was anything like the me of today, then its Teddy Roosevelt without a second thought.

Theodore Roosevelt. I not only think he has an excellent character, he has also proved himself in the role of peacemonger, war leader, economic leader, and social leader.

TR.

Although when was he a wartime leader? He just fought in the Spanish American war.

Teddy. Didn't he recieve the largest amounts of votes for a third party in the history of the US presidental election?

Could you maybe post some info about each candidate, where they stand on most issues of the time etc...

You just answerd your own question. ;)

President McKinley refused to give him a commission when war broke out. Does this stop ol' Teddy? Heck no. He simply resigned from his job as assistant Sec. of the Navy and took command of his very own Rough regiment made up of cowboys and Mexicans and took it to Cuba and led his men in a charge up Kettle Hill on horseback.

He also won the Nobel Peace prize for ending the war between Russian and Japan.

Also a number of the regiment came from Ivy League athletes and polo players as well :D
