Let's remember the soldiers who fought and died on both sides

Today I, too, give thanks to all those who fought for our liberation

My now deceased grandfather was drafted in the Dutch army and fought at the brave but doomed stand at the Grebbeberg - when the Dutch surrender was announced, he threw away his rifle and walked home to The Hague. My grandmother still remembers him walking into the kitchen in the evening, two days later. She had two young children to support, so she was terrified and the relief was overwhelming.
Of course, they still had to survive the occupation.

My father served in the Pacific theater. His division landed on Leyte (the Phillipines) and then Okinawa. I understand your position, R-III. ;)

FWIW, the oldest player/poster I know up in Civ3-GD (eclectic99) is 81 years old, and was a navigator in the Army Air Force in the Pacific theater.

I salute all men and women (and kids in some cases) who fought with honour in service to their nations.

Soldiers or civilians...
Remember the fallen.

That's a great day for our country! Though we celebrate the Victory on May, 9. My grandmother managed to survive the 900 days blockade of Leningrad. I know a lot of people who freed the whole Europe and some of them who even made signs on Reichstag like "We came from Leningrad" etc. (alas, those signs were erased later - people don't seem to wish to remember the history). Many thanks to those who died liberating us and to those who are still alive!
