why is it that vegan food tries to look and taste like meat?
tofu fish sticks? tofu chicken wings? seriously?

do vegans love meat so much?
is it a plot by vegans to make meat lovers consider veganism?

They can't beat meat for taste so they're going for aesthetics. They won't fool me though! :p ;)

Well, vegan products that can imitate meat can bring veganism to carnivores and omnivores much easier.

Whats the point? There is a reason why we have canines and incisors.

I tried vegetarian/vegan food once. It was like eating water. Utterly tasteless without the refreshing quality water usually has.

A lot of vegans are vegans because they are opposed to the way we treat the animals that we eat.

They enjoy the texture of meat and the way it tastes, but are opposed to eating meat for other reasons.
They have to consume protein, and while beans and nuts are awesome, they don't offer a lot of variety.

I do not support veganism. I had a friend this past year in college who became so weak and skinny due to being vegan for 3 years that she fainted all the time and was always nauseated. She was also really depressed, and I give veganism credit for causing that.

She eventually stopped being vegan, started eating meat and animal products again, and she gained back weight so that she actually looks normal now, and she says that she really feels better.

I think that her feeling better and gaining weight might have something to do with more general life reforms than just stopping began a vegan.

Besides, why would veganism cause depression, outside of it possibly being not macho enough?

Except if they fail to deliver on experience in which case one swears off vegan stuff as "hippie . .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ."

I think it's more your friend not taking proper care of what she eats that's to blame for her not feeling well, rather than veganism. If you go full-on vegan you've got to be careful not to run in to all sorts of deficits. I think vitamin B12 deficit could make you depressed.

This is the fundamental problem with "going vegan" for the masses. It requires more forethought and planning, at least initially, than most people are ready to devote to dietary choice. The change is easy for those that have staked their lives on changing but that's not representative of most people.

It's exactly why I'm not vegan. :) I hardly ever eat meat, but I need eggs and dairy: if only because I like meadows with cows.
