Oh! Is that why (GD) Alexander isn't on the list? I get it now...

I'll also upvote Pocatello. I just love his rich tone, and knowing his speech is authentic--that impressed me.

When I think of iconic voices--those I can hear immediately just from reading the name or thinking of the civ--I go to Dandolo, Nebb, MariaT, QueenE, Ramkham... I wanted to downvote MariaT (or Izzy or Maria I) because I hate their voices, but the fact they're stuck means the VA did a nice job.

My downvote goes to Catherine. (My absolute favorite ally AI)

Going forward, when voting, please copy and paste the above post and then use the +3 / -1 format seen throughout this thread. (But a below poster has already fixed this instance)

Harun al-Rashid (Arabic) - 24 (23+1) I think this is someone where the voice acting is more expressive than the animation.
That's not so hard when he just sits and does nothing :P

Attila (Chuvash) - 17-3=14 - I don't know how hard is to find a Chuvash speaker with good rough voice for Attila. Firaxis found someone with good voice. Ok. But when Chuvash speakers didn't realize that Attila was speaking Chuvash, something is wrong.

Kamehameha has a voice very befitting of a towering, jacked, prophesized warrior king. Silky smooth and yet commanding respect with a deep tone and powerful inflections. He sounds like he could be the hero of some fantasy movie, which makes sense considering the fact that his whole life pretty much played out exactly like your typical chosen one story.

Meanwhile, despite Harun himself actually featuring prominently in a fantasy book (1001 Arabian Nights), he sounds very unpoetic. He sounds almost bored when you speak to him and even when he declares war he seems vaguely disinterested. This could work for some leaders, Augustus for instance considers himself an unstoppable god-emperor and sees everyone else as insignificant stepping stones on his ascent to victory so it makes sense why he speaks to you like you're a bug squirming about on his windowsill, but for Harun it just doesn't fit his character for me.

Napoleon doesn't have the voice I'd expect him to, but it is very fitting. A smug, slimy, sneering whine that betrays him as the pompous elitist he is despite ostensibly fighting for the common man against the regimes of old. While they could have gone for something deeper and less "I am obviously evil" I do think he makes it work.

On the opposite end Gandhi sounds exactly like I expect him to, and that really does hammer home the fact that he's not a ruler. He sounds and acts like your grandad, which makes perfect sense for the man nicknamed "Bapu" but also just ends up making it all the more apparent that he's unfit to rule an Indian civilization and should be relegated to Great Person status.
