VQ07 - Snakes on Pangea!!

Hunh, sounds like Freddie managed to complete research in Rifling and upgrade his defenses. Ah well the age of the cossak walk in the park draws to a close.

I'm fine with a domination win, just figured the conquest would be a bit more fun, no worries tho.

Ok that makes me up and I we still can use the Cossacks against the rifles
just means loosing some along the way. "Got it" and play later today.

Looked at the save and see that our forces need strengthening. I was thinking research wise assembly line for infantry and get some gold for upgrades. You guys need a promotion. Have we thought about drafting some soldiers too. I didn't look at our civics but maybe drafting a bunch would speed things up. With a bunch of combat/pinch rifles and cossack/cannons we should be able to take on either Hatty or Freddy. Hatty is the strongest and I personally like going for the strong one. Would Freddy be enough for domination, I am personally in the mood for burning everything down. Raze it all, no fussing with any cities any more and seek conquest which the Snake so deserves. (I mean burning everything, Holy cities, wonder cities don't matter the thing that kills an army is garrisoning.) We have a sh)*load of cities so we don't need anymore.

I say we concentrate our forces to focus on one target. I would like to add some attack rifles to the contingency CR (upgraded) or combat/pinch.

So I'll wait for some input and proceed later on today.

I noticed we have an GE in Beijing I think we should use him for Pentagon.

Turn 1

Novgorod > bank
Shanghai > Barracks
Satsuma > Rifle
Nara > Ch
MMing and troop deployment.

After checking with both Hatty and Freddy I saw that Hatty is more advanced than all of us. She has Astronomy and also Physics since she has uranium as a resource. She is way more of a threat than Freddy and has a lot more land. So logic is applied and feel that we should go after her. I personally would like to go for conquest and once Hatty is finished swing by and take out Freddy and then watch the movie. (get some popcorn too)

Turn 2

RR > Assembly Line.

Went that route because I felt having infantry would help a lot in dealing with the rifles. Having the factories too would help. At some point I realized we had no coal but found some under a windmill and sent some workers there so we could build railroad. Of course I always get the workers to railroad everything production.

Xian > rifle
New Edo > theater
Paris > temple

Turn 3

Troop deployment
Declare war on Hatty
Paris in revolt
Move troops towards Elephantine.

Turn 4

Hatty sends number of Cavalry that manage to capture New Edo
Rectify that and take it back immediately. Cosmichail is no longer.
Take out attacking Cavalry

Turn 5

Kyoto > university
Satsuma > Rifle > Cossack
Hatty sends another wave of Cavalry and she razes New Edo

Turn 6

After wasting one cannon we take Abydos (raze it)
We waste two cannons and raze Elephantine
Start moving troops towards Heliopolis and Giza

Turn 7 thru 10 I lost track of all the moves so will just make a general outline. (forgot to get pictures too)

Hatty has countered attacked several times but we have withstood and I think she is beginning to weaken already. We have a large contingency near Giza/ - Rifles/Cossacks/Cannons and at Heliopolis Cossacks/Cannons. They should be able to be taken in the next couple of turns.

Assembly line is 1 turn away and we are running at 50% science. We got a scientist in Delhi and I think we should use GE in Beijing for Pentagon.

She has a lot of cities but I felt we needed to slow her down since she would have gotten ahead and might get to tanks and infantry before us. Freddy seems to be on equal terms with us so if we take/raze some big cities she won’t be able to stay ahead. Heliopolis is her money maker.

EDIT: Greyfox I notice you want to go domination but it's so much more fun going for conquest. I just applied logic here and felt the strong one needed to be weakened. We are at 49% domination and I think that maybe Freddy might be enough but maybe not. We still can that path as razing Elephantine only reduced her influence of culture on our borders. Taking Heliopolis/Giza would add quite a bit to it. I don't know I just had conquest on the brain.

Logic? I could always argue the other way round: you can eat up the weaker ones faster so that you can concentrate on the strongest opponent when you are bigger and stronger (having assimilated the weak ones).

I am fine with going conquest. Sure conquest is more fun. I just think that domination is faster, that's all. With SGOTM02 starting, and players contemplating on starting the no-culture-game, and this SG has been going at a slower than average VQ SG rate, I just thought a fastest win is better.

EDIT: Addition:

Good job kicking Hatty's sweet little butt. If conquest it is, than we should start razing cities ... hell I should have razed the last two french cities myself.

--

Dunno bout that. They're not bad cities per se... just not really in line with the direction Cosmic and I took.

Oh variant note, there will be no Egyptian snake since we raized the first city we took.

Armstrong is up and haven't seen him in a few days.

He's still got a few hours before he runs up against the 24 hour got it for this game.... so we can be patient until tomorrow. Then BAM!!!

yah, I knew that, but have to treat each SG differently. Heck I know this one is way more interesting then that boring old VQ08! :P Go ahead and take it when you get a chance eektor.

Well I'll be able to play tonight after I get my errands done for the day.

Let's look at my checklist.

1. Capture all cities
2. Rename the bad ones to Nara(2), Nara(3), etc.. :D

Just kidding, it seems like we decided to go for conquest, so I will raze all cities unless it is say a holy city or has some neat wonders.

You're right Cap...

And hey VQ08 ain't boring we had to fight off like 60 barbs and now facing the barbarian navy. Who needs AI with those guys bugging you. We doin good though even got TGL on emperor. Again I did see that it was less than 24 re Armstrong but he's the type that's grabs them all fast and noticed he was gone for almost two days in VQ08. I'm sure it's just RL stuff and we'll hear from him soon.

dot pointed this out from the VQ discussion thread, which might explain things:

I'm interested, but I'll need to see how things go time-wise (I might be OOP for a week or so, I'll know by Wednesday night.)

Sorry for getting this out late. I think I lost some pictures too.

Turn 0: 1840 AD

Turn 1: 1842 AD
Assembly Line -> Combustion

Attacked Giza
Lost a Cossack and a cannon and GreyFox walked in and captured it.
I decided to keep it because it had three wonders, the Spiral Minaret (money for the state religion buildings), Angkor Wat, Notre Dame (1 extra happy for every city).

Giza.JPG

I revolted to Emancipation since the unhappiness was getting bad. Moscow had +7 unhappy because of Emancipation alone. I also decided to go Police State to help with war weariness and get the unit production bonus.

I decided to get Beijing to build the Pentagon and use the GE on it.

Turn 2: 1844 AD
Paris revolted to the Germans (we lost the city, ouch!)

Battle of Helio
Lost 2 cannons and Armstrong captured and kept it. It was the Confucian Holy City and it had the money making wonder.

Heliopolis.JPG

Turn 3: 1846 AD
Crap I just noticed Paris had the Pyramids and our government went back to Despotism since we didn’t have the tech for Police State. I can’t change til 5 more turns so I change research to Police State.

Turn 4-6: 1848 – 1852 AD
Nothing much. Killing some Egyptian units building more units. I’m using the workers to build railroads.

Turn 7: 1854 AD
John Dalton (great scientist) born in Moscow.
Izumo captured and razed, no casualties. (GreyFox led the charge)

Turn 8: 1856 AD
Fascism -> Astronomy (We are going to need to upgrade the caravels to land some units in Tours.

Turn 9: 1858 AD
Used a great scientist to discover Astronomy
Astronomy -> Physics (going towards industrialism for tanks)
Pentagon was built
Revolted to Police State.

Turn 10: 1860 AD
Egyptians are coming on the west side of the continent toward our Indian cities.

After turn comments:
I messed up on the Police State, I didn’t realize the Pyramids was in Paris and that it only needed one more revolt to switch sides.

Our units are outside two cities and they should be able to converge on Thebes afterwards. I think we should consider keeping Thebes even if we are going conquest. Although Thebes doesn’t look as nice as Giza and Helio was with the wonders.

Egyptians are going to land in the western continent next turn. I upgraded some units to infantry but we are looking at 4 calvaries and 4 cannons. Not too much but the cities are very weakly defended.

Oh I finally got some infantries on the front to help with our war now. The war should go easier until the other civs upgrade their units.

 IIRC in our main forces we have only two generals that we are using. General GreyFox leading the charge up north and General Armstrong down south. I believe former general Eektor retired and stayed in his beautiful home by the coast in Nara. Maquis and Cobra Commander is still in Tokyo. No idea where Bobrath or Cosmichail is.

I think if you go to the military advisor (yeah, one of the least used screen) and select show individual unit, it will show the unit names, thus locating where the two missing Generals are.

So, who's UP? Maquis? or are we giving armstrong another 24hrs? I'm starting to worry abt armstrong, missing for days (or even a week) now.
