Since i bought some dark elves WH miniatures and plan to paint them in the following days, i thought i could start a Warhammer thread. You can discuss the hobby, if you are familiar with it, and your views of it. Also tips on painting are welcome :)

For those who do not know what Warhammer is, read the article

Here is a pic of some dark elf Cold one knights, which i have myself as well. The pic was found at druchii.net :)

A friend of mine has an extensive Warhammer collection, and he does his own painting and scenarios. It's a cool hobby, but I don't think I'd enjoy it too much to be honest.

I used to collect and paint Warhammer models when I was 9-13. I would still LOVE to start painting again, but it's simply too time consuming.

I used to worship that stuff when I was in high school and finally kicked the habbit buying some plastic figures loose a few years ago. Promptly put in storage and never played. :) Pretty cool stuff if you get into the painting technique and terrain making. Very geeky and time-consuming though.

I learned most of my skill in painting from painting models. Warhammer and its kin are hideously expensive, and rather time-consuming.
They're very much a lifestyle choice more than just a game.

I loved painting and putting together warhammer 40K miniatures when I was in middle school. I also enjoyed the story. I think a warhammer 40K movie (trilogy??) would be frikkin epic and I can't believe Hollywood hasn't jumped on it yet.

I think I still have a big box of them lying in storage somewhere.

I never liked Warhammer, the models are too over the top for me and I could never get into the game itself either. It doesn't help that Games Workshop is like the EA of the wargames world: all-consuming and soulless, not to mention expensive to the point of being a rip-off. If you're going to play one of their games however, I always enjoyed their LOTR rules which are simpler and can be played with somewhat fewer figures, making it a bit easier on the old wallet. The figures from their LOTR range have a more realistic look to them as well, but that's a matter of taste.

When I played wargames, I mostly preferred WW2 stuff (Rapid Fire was the main ruleset I played with, relatively simple and quick to play). WW2 models and figures are very cheap if you buy stuff like Airfix which is a nice advantage, though there are plenty of nice metal/resin models for the period if you want to spend on a little quality as well.

A friend of mine has a very fine Warhammer set. He used to have a very fine girlfriend.

The bad thing with me is that I had the minatures, but never had the inclination to play them... I just like to paint and look at them. I also like to collect the books:sad:
