If you do not believe in the story of the flood please do not post your own opinion on this! You are free to participate, but please, I'm only interested in the opinion from people who believe in the story of the flood. Preferably from creationists.

I have been trying to get an answer to this question for a while now, but so far no one who actually believes in the flood has wanted to answer me.

I'm talking about the great flood as described in Genesis in the old testament.

And the questions are:

1) Did it ever rain on earth before the flood?

2) Did rainbows exist before the flood?

What give you the reason to ask these question? Is there something that i've missed from the great story of the flood that said that it never rain or never existed of a rainbow prior of the flood?

I always heard that God put up the first rainbow as a sign of His promise not to destroy all life on earth again using water, but it has been a long time since I read the Bible so I can't really say.

If you believe the Bible then no to both. It basically says that in the bible

Do you believe in the story of the flood? If not, I'm not interested in your opinion on the issue. If yes, I would like to ask you more questions.

1) Yes-Earth just never flooded as bad as that.
2) No-rainbows were God's promise with Noah.

I won't state my opinions, because they're Evolutionist.

you're asking creationists, and talking about Genesis. Well, there's nothing talking about the novelty of rain or the previous occurrence of rainbows. So I'd say it's irrelevant and we'll never know for sure this side of eternity.

Are you really so desperate for a straw-man that you're asking about things that have no central importance to the creationists claim? If you're able to convince people that it must have rained and that there must have been rainbows (and you did a pretty good job of convincing me in the last thread, although I was barely remotely close to familiar with the argument until you brought it up), is their faith shaken? has anything fundamentally changed? You could just as well have proven that there 4 wise men (the bible never specifies a number, tradition says 3), and it would be about as important.

also, what would you like us to base this on? this question has about as much relevance, and ability for answering as the question "did George Washington use an iron or bronze axe to chop down his cherry tree?"

ybbor, desperate? I'm simply curious because everytime I've asked the question in the other thread it has been evaded. I figured there must be a reason it's being evaded (I was also told that it was so obvious that everyone should know, I still don't know what the answer was though).

There's nothing strawman about it. I think all creationist claims are silly, but this particular one just got my attention because every other claim I have heard by creationists has been hard and fast.

Anyway, thanks for the answers.. I guess my score so far from creationists is: I don't know = 2. It's obvious (no sure which way) = 1.

I believe that there was a historical but small-scale flood in Noah's day (this is more an opinion than an article of faith). Of course I am an evolutionist so I can't help you too much. Of course there were rain and rainbows before this flood, but the rainbow just gained a new meaning as a symbol that it didn't have before.

Thank you everyone for being civil. But I'm really only interested in what people who literally believe in the flood story think.

And just to make it clear, this thread is not a strawman. I just want to know. I have googled the issue and it didn't clear it up for me.

Then how do you explain Noah-like flood stories all across the globe from China to Meso-America? :mischief:.
Pfft.

China always had bad flooding of the Hwang He, and the Yanze. How hard is it just to exaggerate it a tiny bit more?

Edit: I apologise for the outburst. I have been under a whole lot of stress for final exams this week :yuck:

From the story I'm familiar with there is absolutely nothing that idicates that there wasn't rain before the flood. The people defintely weren't shocked at why water was falling out of the sky.

The rainbow I think was new as Evil Tyrant said

Clearly there was rain after the formation of the Earth.

Again, I apologise to ironduck for my rude post since I am under a whole lot of stress right now for final exams. I am going to answer the questions he presented. And I also apologise for going a bit OT with the flood stories from other parts of the globe  .

1) Did it ever rain on earth before the flood?
Yes, it did rain before the great flood

2) Did rainbows exist before the flood?
Rainbows did exist before the flood since rainbows are a creation from an optical phenomena.

Sorry that I repeated myself, but I felt that I did not answer the questions in the right way.
