"We Have Met The Enemy And He Is Us"

While most of it just sounded like old guy ranting, I do agree with the bit about people being skeptical of "smart people", its so true its sad.

no way that is real

While the OP exaggerates, what he says certainly fits with the image of America we get over here. I make no judgement as to the accuracy of said image, but that's certainly how you guys tend to come off.

It might very well be real. I might have given an "advice" like that under these circumstances.
I definitely did on the cruise-ship version. A whole T-shirt was at stake. :mischief: (Side note: it is extremely disturbing that nobody else knew that Denmark sold the USA their part of the Virgin Islands.)

Unfortunately the US has loudmouths like O'Reilly, Coulter, Matthews and the GawdAwful Olbermann. Not only do they shout so loud they influence the way outsiders view the US, they also shout so loud that many inside buy into their lunatic ideas. For those people the article checks a lot of boxes.

This. I know most americans cant be morons, they are the technological driver of the world, for the most part. but ye have to consider, over here, people like Palin, Coulter, OReilly etc wouldnt get past the interview stage to be a politician or a journalist. There just inst enough of a stupid audience for them. People here are too clever, and people here arent particularly clever.

poeple always have been" ignorant" and it's quite universal. Get of that high horse and realise that poeple are just poeple.

It's not just who gets picked as a candidate. It's the topic of the political discussion running up to the election as well. From memory:

Flag Pin, Muslim, cost of wardrobe, pregnancy of daughter, Joe the effing Plumber (FFS!) Joe the effing PLUMBER(!!!!!), lots of associations mudthrowing, Real America, and I'm sure there's quite a couple I'm missing. It was worse than: flip-flops or Swiftboat vets 4 years ago. And it looks like it will continue to get worse unless something drastically changes.

While "Leader of the Free World" is smelly horsepuppies, it is one of the most powerful people in the world you're electing here. So excuse me while I agree with the article on a couple of issues. Sure, he's exaggerating. But I would too if I wanted to change something so ridiculous, while most people seem to be fine with.

no, every culture is different. would someone like Palin have come this close to being 2nd in line in Belgium? Wouldnt happen here. Ann Coulter wouldnt get a letter published here.

if English was good enough for Jesus Christ, it's good enough for us.

:rotfl: :rotfl:

Hahahaha! That was great!

I dunno about that Ralph. Jacky Healy Rae is a tool and he got elected. The media isn't as biased though I'll give you that.

He got elected but he wasn never going to be a heartbeat away form being in charge of 8,000 nuclear warheads, he represented a few cows, sheep and culchies (no offence, I hate all Irish people equally) who voted for him because he reminded them of JR Ewing

Well it's the exact same thing for Palin. She got a significant amount of the vote from the religious-right, ultra conservative, gun-nut Americans because she reminded them of themselves. I think those type of people would delight at the thought of her being in charge of 8000 nukes.

How do you mention "loudmouths" without adding thier king on the list?
