We ought to have a Paradox Games subforum in the Other Games section

Well, the title says it.

The various historical sim/strategy games are probably the most significant "other games" played by the Civfanatics crowd having much of the same appeal as the Civ franchise. They also lend themselves to much discussion and after-action reports and so forth.
There are tons of Paradox games threads in the main Other Games forum and the "Altered Maps" threads continuously get filled up with screencaps from various Paradox titles.

I think it is high times the likes of Victoria, Hearts of Iron, Europa Universalis and so forth got their own proper subforum.

Seconded EU3 is the only game i have played in aeons. The Paradox games threads are by far the most popular ones in the sub-forum.

Part of me wants to say yes, because of such a large fan base they have here.

The other part wants to say no, because then 80% of the traffic and posts in the other games section would disappear overnight.

I don't think its necessary as there is only one active AAR at the moment and Minecraft probably has more threads. Plus I don't want the threads to shifted away into a separate forum like the Total War ones were.

Maybe just split it a bit into 'Strategy' 'FPS' 'RPG' and the like. But not into developing companies because then we'd have to have Rockstar and Blizzard and so on…

Just like the idea to create an AAR subforum is proposed every couple of months (and indeed recently ~1 month ago), there is no real reason to give it its own subforum. There are only a handful of threads on Paradox games in AOG anyway.

If it's all for realism then, yes, having almost-Neolithic civs fighting gunpowder-armed invaders is more or less historical…

After the end of EU timeline, though. And stuff like Ethiopia, Mali, Sonhgai, Oyo etc. did have cavalry and guns. Sure, Western Africa got conquered by France - but so was Algiers, and it doesn't mean that Algiers' tech rate should be 0.2.

Agreed. I like Paradox, so I'd like to be able to have a subforum devoted to their creations.

Creating a separate subforum for a game or series always seems to be the quickest way to kill off discussion about it, and All Other Games is hardly overwhelming in activity as it is.

I say yes to this. If Galactic Civilizations 2 and Spore can have their own forums, then the entire Paradox line deserves one too.

I'm would actually argue for shoving these forums back into All Other Games, along with Total War, for all the discussion they generate.
