Well the title pretty much says it all.
In a recent game (actually the immortal churchill), I have Pacal way to friendly--at one point +21 relations and my voluntary vassal.
Still I get the WFYABTA message:

Anybody got any ideas why? I thought you didn't get that once you got to friendly.

Do you have any other Vassals? The AI takes its mood towards you and all of your vassals for things like WFYABTA, resource trades, etc.

You have a vassal (Napoleon) and Pacal is only 'pleased' towards him. The attitude is rounded down so friendly+pleased = pleased.

If you get Pacal to friendly towards Napoleon WFYABTA goes away again.

Thanks guys--now that you explain it I do remember--just hadn't come up in a while.

From that save, it's not the average of the relation numbers, but need both to be friendly to make friendly work--or if you had 3 vassals would 2 friendly and 1 pleased make for friendly?

It averages down, so if you have 1 vassal that is friendly with 14 others ( and yourself ) and pleased with one other vassal of yours, the average attitude will be pleased, hence WFYABTA :(

You don't need mutual friendly. Or to be more precise it doesn't matter what Napoleon thinks about Pacal (for you to trade with Pacal) -- it only matters what Pacal thinks about Napoleon. You can bribe Napoleon into HR which should (combined with mutual war) get things done fairly soon.

I think I had a situation where a rival AI was friendly with me + 1 of my vassals and pleased with the other and IIRC I still got WFYABTA -- so friendly+friendly+pleased is pleased as well. Might want to get someone to look into files for that one though, my memory could be lacking.

Rusten: good idea about the HR bribe--too bad I've already finished.

I almost lost a game due to this. Had Peter as a neighbor and friendly for a very long time. I started taking vassals on the other continent with most of my army there as well. Peter went into WHEOOHRN and I forgot about vassals affecting relations, but luckily he left WFEOOHRN.
