Tonight is the night for fame for a Marysville manufacturing company.

Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” will air tonight a show that features Wham-O and Fagerdala World Foams, which makes foam flotation devices for the toy company.

The satirical news show was in Marysville April 8 to film the show, which includes an interview with the chief executive officer of Wham-O. The show is centered around Wham-O’s decision to bring jobs back to the U.S. from China.
It airs at 11 p.m.

Wham-O was founded in 1948 and stopped making products about 10 years ago. When the company got back in the game in January, it moved production of its pool noodles from China to Marys-ville, creating 25 to 30 jobs in the process.

Exactly how the interview goes down is unclear.

The showdown between Wham-O Chief Executive Officer Kyle Aguilar and Aasif Mandvi, a "Daily Show" correspondent since 2006, was off-limits to the Times Herald earlier this month.

Charlie Cronenworth, the manager of the Marysville plant, said many of the employees are getting together at a local watering hole to watch the episode.

He said they’ll record it for those who can’t make it to a television set tonight.

"Everybody’s real excited,” he said. “It is a great morale booster for the employees.”
I wouldn't hold your breath:

So you are now saying we Americans have to make our own cheap plastic crap.

You are turning America into a third world country.

This is like a reverse kind of colonialism.

It has gotten so bad that Mexicans are hiring Americans to do the job that Chinese don't want to do.

Does this mean as Americans we are going to have to put our own antifreeze in the toothpaste?

So what do you think? Has the economy gotten so bad that the lousy jobs are finally coming back to America? Is China going to take our hi-tech jobs instead?

That is the worst cop-out ever.

Know your limits. Avoid making claims you can't back up.

There are things that China already surpasses the US in, however the overall economy is not one of them and I would think it will take more than 20 years for the Chinese economy to surpass the American one.
If we were to make the poor assumption that the average annual growth China experienced over the last 20 years were to continue for the next 20 years, and the more reasonable assumption that America's economy will do the same, then it would take 16 years for China to overtake the US.
However, it is likely that China's GDP growth rate will drop significantly in that time, while America's probably won't drop by much, and so it will take longer for China to catch up.
Finally, on a per capita basis, China wouldn't exceed the US even at current growth rates for almost 40 years

Well I learned something. And thanks for not hatin' on me.

I'm a 17 year old with autism. There are limits to my knwoledge and abilities.

pfft, I suffer from Aspergers, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Bipolar and Megalomania,

I'm a basket case in other words (and I'm allergic to the medications)

Man, I feel bad for ya! Oh well, I'm like the person people are nice to but don't truly like.

I'm the person people hate, I come across in real life as condescending because of my diction, when you habitually correct your teachers...

Oh, I know teacher trouble very well. One time a teacher pissed me off and I literally spit in her face- and I was 5! AS I like to say i've been spiting in the face of authority since I was in kindergarten...

:goodjob:

My teacher told me not to interrupt him, so when he showed how to find a trig thing (it involved lots of powers) manually and spent 45 minutes on it I pointed out that he made a mistake on step three  major implosion,

the first time I asked him how you find it with out a calculator he said you don't so then I baited him by saying "Mr. Lumanglas, you claim that it is to time consuming so prove it to us, I'm sure that there is a way to do it without calculators because Indians over 1000 years ago knew how to do it, unless of course you are implying that Filipinos are dumber than Indians" of course this goaded him into doing it (see first paragraph)
it was uproariously funny (somewhat redundant I know)

Well, I won't complain about diluting Chinese influence, over the USA and the whole world. Plus a few more people getting employed isn't too bad.

We also need to find a way to reconcile lower-class labor and higher-class labor, if we want to ever truly export the First World lifestyle to all the people of the world. Better sooner than never that we discover how to make manufacturing and service jobs coexist in one society, as it provides a model towards that goal.

Of course, this means that prices will surge due to higher wages... but, at least this could teach us a more sustainable lifestyle.

If you have autism, you should be smarter than most people. You should have answers. :)

Wow Historybuff, thanks for reaffirming people's belief about us being weird and lazy. Just wow.

In specific things, autistic people tend to have one thing that they focus heavily on, you can learn everything you want to know from them on that, on other things not so much

I thought liberals wanted us to manufacture our own things instead of China.
