The problem with this is that you can never have all of the set preference ""strategies"". Easy to notice if you start with the strategy to always move piece x and then either piece x again or not piece x. As long as piece x exists on the board and can move forever (it's not a pawn ^ it's not surrounded) there is no full set of moves, and if it gets taken out or surrounded indefinitely, the strategy no longer is the same.
Also, the existence of specific number of positions on the board, specific rules for moving pieces, as well as an end-state (check mate), makes chess not that good for studying something general.

Somebody's making a dramatized movie based on that story. I forget who, now. I'm kind of bracing myself for that. On the one hand, it's obviously a very compelling story ripe for a good film, but otoh, it's the kind of thing Hollywood whitewashes and wrings every ounce of melodrama out of (e.g. The Impossible).

Somebody's making a dramatized movie based on that story. I forget who, now. I'm kind of bracing myself for that. On the one hand, it's obviously a very compelling story ripe for a good film, but otoh, it's the kind of thing Hollywood whitewashes and wrings every ounce of melodrama out of (e.g. The Impossible).

Wonder if the movie will feature Elon Musk getting sued for defamation because he called one of the divers a pedophile.
