In Utah a cougar gave a hiker a 6 minute nightmare

I cant believe the guy didn't pick up rocks and fire a few across the cat's bow

edit: on 2nd thought just throw 1-2 rocks behind her so the noise would get her to investigate a possible new threat closer to her cubs.

What did he do in the end that scare the cougar away? I don't know if throwing a rock a good idea, it can either scare the cats away or it can triggers it. But omg the scenery it's unbelievably beautiful, hands down.

Never really realized the man until Chael Sonnen made a mentioned about him, he rising too fast I even cannot followed what happened.

The cougar was protecting her cubs, once the cat felt the threat was over she turned tail and headed back to them. You can see by the cat's attacks she was trying to drive him away and not cause actual harm.

I'd love to see him smash McGregor!!

edit : Probably not practical as he'd have to lose too much weight

That would not be a fight, that would be a child-abuse  But Conner is a prick though; not only there are so many on-going case of rape and sexual harassments with the latest one the one that he did in France, but he also caught punching an elder in Dublin PUB for not accepting his offer to drink his cheap whiskey.

edit: But Khabib handled McTappy pretty well though.

Today I heard someone on the radio say the hiker felt safe enough to reach down and pick up a rock which he tossed in the cat's direction, thats when the cat took off

If I'm in his position, I don't have enough courage to take that risk, because throwing rock obviously would trigger the flight or fight reaction, in this case thankfully it was the flight, but what if the cougar reacted with "fight" itself? Equipped with only a smart-phone and a barehand, it would be getting maul to the death.

But if he doesn't took that risk, the cougar would become increasingly daring till it finally able to understand that the target is actually don't pose much threat to the cougar then decided to attack.

It's a risky decision in my view, and I'm glad he took it. I would not dare to risk myself if I'm in his position.

The cat was likely defending his territory or kitten and the guy was walking back for a while. Whatever he was protecting, he would be less confident and aggressive further away from it.

Very nice point!

edit: So the closer it was to the cub, the more possibility that an act of self-defense would get answer with a fight reaction.

Definitely, the closer the threat the more aggressive the cat's response... I think the hiker finally got tired of walking backwards and decided a little assertive defense was needed to encourage the cat to retreat. Right before the cat took off the hiker did something, the camera shook and turned away from the cat. I suppose thats when he grabbed a rock and tossed it.

In India people walking thru jungles wear human face masks on the back of their heads so they appear to be looking front and back. They do this because stalking Tigers will see the mask and become more hesitant to attack.

At Disney World I visited the Zoo park, Animal Kingdom, and they have all kinds of big cats in different large habitats/enclosures, generally, they are open air, and you can go right up to the railing to look at them. On the "Safari" ride, the lions actually roam free. There is usually some deep trench, or some kind of barrier that the animals cannot cross that is hidden from view, but at least in appearance, it looks like you could walk right up to them.

But it was totally different in the tiger enclosure. All the places the tigers were and all the paths that the tigers could take were completely enclosed in foot thick bulletproof glass. It reminded me of Jurassic Park with the velociraptors. You could just tell that they were so much more dangerous than all the other animals in the park.

Watched this presentation by Douglas Engelbart after watching his Mother of All Demos from 1969 earlier this week. I’m posting this from my phone (where I do a lot of internet stuff nowadays) so it’s interesting to think about what he’s talking about while I’m using input methods and control methods that did not exist at the time that he delivers this presentation. Well, touchscreens did but they were primitive and awful.

Now watching Chomsky on language:

Teen with dissociative identity disorder.

Shoot, I had a follow-up video, wherein we get to meet Jade (mom) and Max (6-year-old boy), but I can no longer find it.
