What bike?

It seems the quality of bikes have decreased from being able to last decades to only a few years. My last bike, although bought used, seems to almost broken and I'll probably get a new one someday soon. I'd like a quality bike that looks plain enough not to be stolen.

What's your experience with the quality of bikes? What do you use? What type and brand of bike do you prefer and recommend for everyday use?

this one was built in 1953. nobody will want it and it will last for another 100 years.

That one looks great. I'd be surprised if no one wanted that. It looks like it'd cost upwards a thousand dollars.

I'm Swedish and I am looking at the Skeppshult bicycle, it looks like something that would be interesting.

The one I've got at the moment is a Kronan, but probably a newer one, not one of the old army bikes...

I'm guessing it's the same thing with Waffenrad - the older ones are the quality bikes.

Bicycles are evil and should be abolished. Too many innocent pedestrians have been injured.

I've heard one of these has amazing quality that can last you for decades.

I recommend any bike with enough space to put a large mandatory sign reading, "Warning: rider ignores all traffic lights, stop signs and pedestrians."

What's with the hate against cyclists? If the private car traffic in the inner city's was banned we'd be way better off.

People don't hate cyclists per se. They hate anyone who habitually puts their safety or their loved ones' safety unnecessarily at risk.

I despise the cyclists who insist on riding on the sidewalk instead of in the dedicated bike lanes. But that's because I lack even this most basic of force multipliers.

How will you be riding your bike, and how long will the trips be?

My current bike a hybrid-mountain bike fitted with thin tires for street use---A Gary Fisher Montare.

I hate it when it's the other way around.

When cyclists ride in the streets (or the outer edge of the bike lane (why?)), they force me to drive around them, putting me a little into oncoming lane for a couple seconds, i.e. exceedingly dangerous.

Stay on the sidewalk where you belong bikers, lest I gain some nerve and not drive around you.

I found a cheap durable bike at one of my local supermarkets. It's got 3 gears, a lock and that's basically it, oh and it's black. I believe I paid 1200 Dkr for it which would probably be the same in Sweden, give or take few 100 kr. Being that simple it is really hard to break much on it, and it's not that big a loss if it gets stolen.

look at your local Aldi or some of the bigger supermarkets and stay away from bicycle smiths. It is my experience that they cheat you as much as they can get away with and should only be used if you cant repair your bicycle yourself.

I think that is your impatience forcing you to drive around them, not the biker. After all, it is your foot on the pedal. ;)

Plus, I'm only talking about places with bike lanes.

It's not really impatience when the speed limit is 40 and they're going 10...

And yes, I'm also talking about bike lanes :p

I have a sexy hybrid Cannondale, it's my 2nd most valueble possession after my computer (monetarywise), well technically my car is still in my name but I'm giving it to my significant other.

Someone nag me tomorrow & I'll take pics if anyone is interested in it. I have a milkcrate on the back cause I'm classy like that.

Edit : Nevermind, here's a video of my bike before I put the crate on the back. Man I miss the summer!

I don't know what the rules are in Sweden, but in the US cyclists are supposed to be subject to the same traffic laws as motor vehicles. Since the cyclists rarely follow any of those rules it creates a certain amount of disdain towards them.

Plus, cyclists here are rude in the sense that they feel that motor vehicles should always yield to them, which according to the law, is an incorrect assumption on their part.
