What do you think about death?

1. The mere idea mortifies me (pardon the pun ). That death is natural or inevitable doesn't matter to me in the least; I'm scared as hell whenever I think about it! Fear doesn't have to be rational, you know. Just to think that I won't exist anymore... It's impossible to even truly think about imo.

As Woody Allen put it, I don't want to live on in the hearts and minds of my loved ones; I want to live on in my apartment! I want to experience the Universe and eat pie goddammit! The government should fix me up with a job so that I can start sponsoring that anti-aging drug research...

2. Often. Everything I do is meaningless in a way if I don't exist anymore to see what becomes of it. Yeah, I'm selfish I guess. I mean I'm happy with the idea that someone will read something I wrote after my death (if it ever becomes probable)... But I'd be even happier if I'd be alive to hear his/her direct delight about it!

3. Not very familiar. One of my grandmothers has died but we weren't very close. I do know that I don't want to die in one of those creepy "last-home-before-oblivion" type of houses with the puke-green walls, smell of meds and stale sheets, crappy flower paintings and the nurses treating you like a child. For me it will be a rented Corvette through a giant billboard at 160 mph, thank you very much. My last view will be of the blazing sunset from my severed head that files into the ocean through the windshield (cut off by the edge of the billboard). See you in another life, brutha! Yeeeee-hawww! :cowboy: :borg: :jesus:

...still scary as hell though. I mean the idea of death in that moment; obviously it's scary to drive like that. Whatever, I'll get my coat now...

1) What scares you the most about it? (i.e., not knowing what is after? the possible pain of dying? What will happen to loved ones after?)

2) How often do you think about death? Do you think it is worth any consideration at all, or is life better lived just "living" rather than thinking about death?

3) How familiar are you with death? Have you ever seen anyone die? Have you ever seen a dead body? What emotions does it evoke for you to see such things if applicable?

1- I'm not scared of dying because as a religious person I beilieve that I will go to a good place (Not Heaven specificaly, just a good place), but the one thing that scares me is what will my family do after I'm gone because I couldn't stand it if they had a hard time over my death. Especialy my mother who's told me before how she couldn't live anymore if me or my brother died.

2-not often at all

3-I've seen the old in my family die and was one the last ones my grandmother saw, and I seen my share of dead bodies, and they are a bit weird, but they don't envoke any stong emotion.

Well, personally, I intend to not die. I expect my consciousness to be transfered to a digital form.

1. Scares the crap outta me. None of that religious or philosophical stuff about life cycles and afterlife. Its damn scary and anyone who doesn't fear death is either a liar or an immensely at peace individual.

2. I would say fairly often. My Dad has a particular liking for humour about death and it must have rubbed off a bit. Also at work the sort of depressing chat that involves the discussion of death is fairly common.

3. The main experiences I have of death were the deaths of my paternal grandparents. I saw them both lying in state. Certainly among the most moving emotional states I've ever been in - and I wasn't exactly the most close grandchild to either of them. The grief of losing a spouse, parent or child is certainly still out of my comprehension.

Serious Question. We all have to do it at some point. What are your feelings?

Specifically:

1) What scares you the most about it? (i.e., not knowing what is after? the possible pain of dying? What will happen to loved ones after?)

2) How often do you think about death? Do you think it is worth any consideration at all, or is life better lived just "living" rather than thinking about death?

3) How familiar are you with death? Have you ever seen anyone die? Have you ever seen a dead body? What emotions does it evoke for you to see such things if applicable?

1. I wouldn't say "scared", but I am most concerned about not knowing what this world will be like afterwards.

2. Not very.

3. Not very. A few distant relatives but not really anyone I really know that well. A few of my pets have died. It sucks to greatly outlive dogs.

anyone who doesn't fear death is either a liar or an immensely at peace individual.
Well, you will die someday (barring some sort of scientific miracle), and you'll have to make peace with that fact. Better to do it early and do everything you want to do here.

This is something I hate when other people do: I cannot personally comprehend how X could be so for anyone therefor, those claiming X must lie to themselves. The nicest thing I could say is that you lack imagination.

I'm not at peace persay, I just understand the concept of nil in a way that it doesn't terrify me anymore than the concept of having never been born.

1) What scares you the most about it? (i.e., not knowing what is after? the possible pain of dying? What will happen to loved ones after?)

Not knowing when it will happen, how, and the pain involved.

Seems to me like there is no good reason to think that there might be something afterwards. If there is, why be afraid of it?

2) How often do you think about death? Do you think it is worth any consideration at all, or is life better lived just "living" rather than thinking about death?

Almost never. What's the point?

3) How familiar are you with death? Have you ever seen anyone die? Have you ever seen a dead body? What emotions does it evoke for you to see such things if applicable?

I have never had anyone close to me die, so I am probably ill prepared to deal with the crapstorm that will erupt when this ahppens.

1) I'm not scared really. I just imagine it being like going to sleep or being put to sleep before a surgery. I'm more worried about my best friend and girlfriend :(

2) Often, but not often enough to be an obstacle in my daily life.

3) I suppose I am fairly familiar. I have never seen a corpse though.

Death = rebirth. Cycle of Samsara continues.

No need to fear or dread death. You just need to prepare for it with good thoughts, good actions in this current life.

I didn't know you were a Hindu...

No-one has ever complained about being dead though! And worrying about it isn't going to make it go away.

 best dark joke of the week.

1) Thinking this is the end. There's nothing else on the other side

2) Not until you brought it up  Probably on in a while.

3) Other than the occasional funeral I haven't been around death much.

1) What scares you the most about it? (i.e., not knowing what is after? the possible pain of dying? What will happen to loved ones after?)

Not such much scared as an intense anxiousness. I'm not concerned about my passing its self so much as what comes after. An eternal sleep doesn't really appeal to me.

2) How often do you think about death? Do you think it is worth any consideration at all, or is life better lived just "living" rather than thinking about death?

In the abstract? Probably every day. Actually thinking about my own death and what comes after it I do far less often, and I generally try to avoid.

3) How familiar are you with death? Have you ever seen anyone die? Have you ever seen a dead body? What emotions does it evoke for you to see such things if applicable?

None, nope, zip, na-da.

I like you

I am honestly not afraid of death at all, for me death will only be the beginning of my eternal life.

2) How often do you think about death? Do you think it is worth any consideration at all, or is life better lived just "living" rather than thinking about death?
I guess I do think of my mortality in the sense of not doing dangerous things, but Gods going to have me on this earth as long as he wants and other then not doing dumb things I have no worries.

3) How familiar are you with death? Have you ever seen anyone die? Have you ever seen a dead body? What emotions does it evoke for you to see such things if applicable?
about average mostly family members, no, yes, loss and sorrow though possibly some joy or peace if they're going to heaven.

Prospect of oblivion is what scares me most about death, as I don't have any particular faith in life beyond. The thought of old age and being doddering and frail also creeps me out, I'd rather be perpetually young and healthy and skip dying altogether to be honest.

2) How often do you think about death? Do you think it is worth any consideration at all, or is life better lived just "living" rather than thinking about death?

Not too often, but sometimes. From time to time I'll ponder the death of civilization or the universe as well as my own end. It's worth considering especially since it's inevitable for all of us, but there's no use in obsessing over it.

3) How familiar are you with death? Have you ever seen anyone die? Have you ever seen a dead body? What emotions does it evoke for you to see such things if applicable?

Dealt with the decline and death of pets, and was present when my old dog was put to sleep, but not very familiar with human deaths.

1) Nothing really scares me about it. I guess I don't think about it enough to feel anything

2) Really not that much. Maybe once or twice a month. I'll seriously think about it maybe once every 6 months, thinking about how I would feel if someone very close to me would die.

3) I've had some people very close to me die before. My two most beloved grandparents passed away, as did the dog I knew basically since I could comprehend what a dog was.

Mostly it would suck for my family. It would also suck to die a painful death. On the whole I'm not afraid of being dead, but I prefer my present life.

Not very often.

I attended my grandfathers funeral. He died Christmas night at my house. The strongest feeling I have about that is that I did not know him as well as I would like.

I've also had other old relatives die, but I did not know them well and did not attend their funerals. Largely due to geography.
