I love some of the creative graffiti I see around me. Brighton, the city I live in is quite open to it, and often building sites are purposly sprayed to look nicer rather than just plain hordings. Many shops have their fronts designed and sprayed to look "different" and appealing.

Obviously the most famous graffiti artist would be Banksy.

Some of his work can be found in Brighton. There are tons an tons of other examples. Even the council gets involved sponsoring it.

Do you have any examples you love? Or do you think its scum vandalism>?

Banksy is pretty awesome. i'm ok with graffiti as long as it isn't just someone with a can of black spraypaint writing his name on the wall. I actually have a good number of pictures of train gaffiti I was thinking of getting together for maybe a book. they're on my other compy, i'll have to get one.

Why not? If you're going to slimy things like vandalize the property of others then why make a distinction? Spray painting my name should be as "legitimate" as anything else.

Because there are some seriously good artists out there. Why would you want an ugly cinder block wall when you could have art? Just spray painting your name without any style isn't art. Though I guess thats another discussion.

About a week ago in Sydney, a woman got sentenced to 3 months gaol for a first graffiti offence. Opinion polls suggested that this sentence was supported by most.

Personally, I think that it is fine and good if sponsored/endorsed by local councils or whatever, but not good and just an eyesore when illegal.

That's clearly vandalism, graffiti in my mind is "urban art" :mischief:

Who says my name rendered in black spray paint isn't art?

Maybe I like it that way since it's my wall to begin with?

Maybe if someone wants MY wall painted so badly then they can come to my door and pay $500 and then I'll paint MY wall with my adorable little half-assed 5-year-old-style stick figures and smiley faces. Then everyone is happy.

Jet Set Radio taught me to love graffiti.

It's simple. If the owner of the sprayed property agreed, it is OK. Otherwise, it is vandalism and the "artist" should be arrested.

Personally I think graffiti is very ugly, but that has nothing to do with the first opinion.

Some of its art some of it's just mindless drivel or some idiot boasting how he climbed up a bridge almost fell off and brained himself to post 3 letters in a jaunty style.

I dislike it strongly.

And I've never seen remotely nice "artsy" grafitti stay remotely nice for long. Usually it acts as a magnet/signal/provocation for inscriprions like "Vasya Petrov was here" made in black spray paint.

This. :goodjob:

Graffiti are vandalism made by scum. It's simple as that.

Graffiti = vandalism = garbage. Art = art. If the owners of the walls are ok with it, it's art. Also, that gigantic mural you posted is art, not graffiti. Graffiti is the feces that I watched teenagers on the subway in NYC writing on the walls.
