What do you think would happen to OT if...

After a very long poll thread full of shouting, the NESers would probably create their own forum and start a mass exodus. Either that or go to Apolyton.

Actually, wouldn't the entire site eventually go offline if nobody was paying the bills?

And if all the mods/admins other than Thunderfall ended up Lost, which one of them is Locke?

(I confess I haven't watched the last couple of seasons because it just got waaay too confusing...)

So for example, the ban on discussing the BNP might well stay in place.

I was wondering whether I should ask in Feedback about this since it utterly baffles me...links are understandable to follow other forum rules but this still seems rather draconian. I mean, just cause they tried to change their name from British National Petroleum to Beyond Petroleum doesn't make them different from other companies! Also, about Lost:

The last couple of seasons were by far the best though...

If all the mods were gone I'd troll the kids in CivIV and CivRev into oblivion and then a couple of OT posters on my list. I'd bump all the dead threads in Civ3 C&C because they all split their wigs whenever that happens. Then I'd spam the History forum with "What if..." and "Who is the greatest..." threads. Then I'd troll Sports Talk and turn it into a seapee forum. OT would expand to the rest of the forum and the original OT would be overtaken by threads about Poland, the BNP, rasism, and inane polls.

Successful mass exoduses are somewhere between 'rare' and 'a myth'. Unless they were suffering from a consistent troll, they'd probably stay where they were, or fragment.

Yes, but we're creepy like that. Even after the hissyfit known as "Moving From Civ3 Stories to All Other Games".

I thought NES was basically dead anyway?

I personally think a forum with membership like us would be insane amounts of fun if 100% un-moderated. It would be like re-enacting D-Day every evening!
No it wouldn't. Everyone would be drowning in moronic spam as the idiots realize they can get away with their boring drivel. Except 500 crappy polls about pokemon.

I didn't say I wanted this forum to become an anarchy-fest, but an un-moderated place might be fun if only for the incredible shoutfests than would ensue.

I would also enjoy this shoutfest. Though spammers are so annoying I could not tolerate 400 polls about pokemon!
I like the job our mods do but I want to see them go WILD! sometime, make a banned POST!
So more power to the mods to break the rules ;)

It could also be fun if a forum were not anarchy, but Anarchist, that is, everything done by direct democracy. We could ostensibly have polls about banning people and preventing Pokemon threads and such.

Enforcement? And you'd need rules and stuff. You'd eventually end up with the same system. Or something like it.

I've seen forums like that. Not good.

Uh, there's a difference between "moderating like normal forums" and "moderating like CFC"; the only as strict or stricter forums I've seen were made by gaming companies (and those are horrible places to do OT anyway)

unmoderated places generally aren't fun they get filled with boring spam.

Nope, that stuff has way too much sock/meat puppetry and the like to work out.

I think when he said "except" he meant "expect."
Yep, keyboard failed me yet again.

On second thought, this wouldn't be like CivJunction. That was organized chaos, and it resulted in the most hilarious and creative 24 hours in the life of this site.
