When did Cloud get elected to the US Senate

When did relative thinking die in the world (or become scorned and ridiculed), and all comparatives are expected so literally and strictly applicable as to be impossible to fulfill. I remember a day when relative thinking was still given respect, and not mocked and chided. But somehow that changed. Probably around the time that the whole zeitgeist turned to vicious, polarized stupidity, long-term thinking became highly discouraged, the believing of myths and lies and the dismissal of facts became more common, and socio-political debate and the public dialogue lost all integrity and value. How far the world has fallen!

I don't know what's less credible assumption, that there are "extremist" Democrats, or that the hardliners in the Republican Party are some sort of marginal fringe.

I assume if moderates and centrists leave both parties, then both parties will become more extreme... Hasn't gerrymandering done that by making primaries harder for moderates and centrists to win? If you think only the GOP is home to extremists, I dont find that credible.

In zerker's defense he considers me an extremist democrat for wanting to put his kids through college without debt and want to allow them to recover from a car wreck without declaring bankruptcy.

I can see why people who paid off student debt would be unhappy about getting hit with someone else's too, but car wrecks are why we have insurance.

In today's environment a similar question might be: If you see a car broken down along the highway and it has a Trump (or Clinton) bumper sticker, would you stop and help?

If they're waving me down or I see evidence of immediate need, of course... But in this day and age people have phones and already have help on the way. I used to stop more often for people until I figured that out, it took me longer to learn cuz I dont carry a phone, so if I break down I'm walking and hitching.

I don't carry one of those either. I have a landline and laptop at home. I believe those are destroying social interactions, young people's social skills, causing distraction and other issues, and are, POSSIBLY, the Mark of the Beast from Christian eschatology.

So that's a... no?

You're lack of understanding how your reply to me is completely insufficient makes up so much of the points I consistently make in these threads. Thank you.

I thought the mark of the beast was 666 and by Jewish numerology a reference to Nero

I'm not sure you need to be worrying about young people's social skills.

I think my point is that whether or not @Cloud_Strife has been elected to the U.S. Senate is not even remotely meaningful to the point I was making. I was referring to mentality and viewpoint, not the position of power and visibility to bring it into fruition. Or did that elude you?

"666," is the NUMBER of the Beast. The MARK of the Beast is separate thing in the Revelation narrative.

I never called you an extremist or a Democrat, much less for supporting 'free' college nor have we ever debated car wrecks and bankruptcy (WTH), so you're just building strawmen.

Sure if you think the defining characteristic of Senator Joseph McCarthy's Un-American Activities Committee was "not liking people" as opposed to doing spade work, from a position of high political power, on behalf of the hegemonic ideology of a superpower engaged in geopolitical rivalry with another.

You wanna talk about coarsening, flattening and dichotomising the discourse, maybe start there.

ok that might be fair

the car wreck bankruptcy thing has to do with healthcare and the reality is if you get injured in a car wreck a little over half the US is staring medical bankruptcy in the face.

I have never said, for instance, that someone is tantamount to, and might as well be, a, full-out, died in the wool Fascist because I wasn't comfortable with, and showed concern for, arbitrary, draconian, and heavy-handed censorship of people and groups with no seeming accountability, appeal, or intrinsic limits on a permanent basis. @Cloud_Strife, as well as @MaryKB and @Gorbles did that exact same thing to me - which was a tactic just dripping with McCarthyist ideology.

Why, do you think I never have to deal with them?

Inquisition on behalf of the people in charge is kind of central to the concept of McCarthyism.

Cos yeah I dunno how you meaningfully get a link from that episode of history to "person on the internet is a touch angry at people who deny, minimise, enable and support the spectrum of threat and violence they experience". That second one is literally just discourse, and critical, oppositional and even mean words aren't McCarthyism.

Both parties have their extremists, the difference is that in the GOP the extremists have them.

Apparently criticism of peoples stances is now censorship, appart from when it comes from @Patine it seems.

Criticism of people's stances? I think you're remembering a tamer disagreement between us, and NOT the one I'm referring to.

That response is nonsensical in the context of what it's supposed to be responding to.
