What does your Surname literally mean?

"The gente" as in I am a gentleman? Or I am aristocracy?
 
I'm not sure actually. Bacchus was the Roman equivalent, but I mean Dionysos. Not sure if it's the same bloke under a different name.

I almost suggested Dionysius/Dionysus, but Bacchus sounded more rare. Dionysus is seen today as Dennis. Bacchus is seen nowhere.

I got Smith. About as common as you can get.
 
According to some now-forgotten web source, mine is a location-derived name that refers to a region of what was once east Prussia.
 
Mine is one of those names like "Archer," "Smith," "Mason," etc. It is really obvious what my last name means, but i don't feel like divulging what it is on the Internetz.
 
None of you guys can ever beat a surname meaning: "The all-powerful warrior who, because of his endurance and inflexible will to win, goes from conquest to conquest, leaving fire in his wake." :p
 
A variation of a name that means decended from the champion.

It isn't all that common outside of the west of Ireland.

All I remember about my family coat of arms is that it has the legend "Aquila non captat muscas" on it. No, it's not the first few that show up on Google Image Search either.
