What is the attention span of a Sarah Palin ?

Why not?

Sometimes I think an everyday person would do a much better job to be honest.

You think any everyday person should have the job of most powerful person on Earth? Would you not be more inclined towards someone of outstanding ability?

So keeping some last min talking point reminders on your palm is evidence that someone is slow?
Well, duh.
This is ridiculous.

Conservative writes 5 words on her hand.
"What an idiot!"

Obama reads entire speeches from a teleprompter.
"Greatest orator of our time!"

A day later she had "Hi mom!" written on her hand, so I think she was just trolling the media. They'll jump on anything to make conservatives look dumb.

Not that I'm saying Sarah is smart or would be a good leader, far from it. The bias is so obvious that it just has to be pointed out.
But Obama has held extended question sessions over a wide range of topics in real time and impressed everyone with his grasp of detail.
And she's just an idiot.

Only anecdotal evidence as I am pretty sure there arent any published studies on it. But its something I see all the time and even do myself every once in awhile when I need to scribble something quick and dont have a piece of paper.

Let me guess. You have never, ever, ever written on your hand before?

Never.

Man, if they made shooting fish in a barrel an olympic sport, YOU would take GOLD bathsheba666.
And would graciously accept, rather than make the fish apologise.

OK, instead of normal people shouldn't be President, how about "people who quit governorships citing the expense of legal bills for fighting ethics investigations and psychological pressure from media exposure who then instead think becoming a professional FoxNews-analyst-and-convention-speaker in preparation for a Presidential run is a better-idea..." shouldn't be President.

It is entirely Palin's fault that she cannot properly control her public image.

A simple mnemonic would have sufficed:

Tax Cuts
Energy
American spirit

Can someone explain to me the big deal with Obama using a teleprompter. I've seen other US presidents use it, but I don't understand why it's treated differently now.

This is really a minor kerfuffle.

Politicians recite speeches from teleprompters, use notes, etc... all the time.

What this shows is how unprofessional she is. She is in SERIOUS need of professional, high level, PR and staffers. She has not one person around her who's smart enough to say to her "hey, Sarah, how about we wash that hand off and you jot it on a note card? How do you feel about teleprompters?" Who's smart enough to know that A. the teen-ager like writing on your hand will be noticed easily and B. It will make you look unprepared/foolish?

Seriously, her whole camp is run like an amateur circus.

There's a great write up on this at 538.

i think the big thing is that she was bashing Obama's teleprompter while reading stuff from her hand

Maybe she thinks he ought to use his hand instead of the teleprompter.

Yep.

Steve Colbert really nailed Sarah over the hypocrisy of cheap-shotting Obama for using a teleprompter then gets caught using a "Hand-o-Prompter". Then she defends Rush Limbaugh using "satire" to talk about the "****** summit at the White House". But watch out for some pretty harsh language if you access the video on his website.

For the record, jotting down notes so that you remember things is a good idea, if it will help you remember things that are important.

It shows good metacognitive skills. People with good habits or good 'tricks' can be very successful.

I can understand the argument that she only jotted down a few notes for herself while Obama has his entire speeches on a prompter however Obama has also showed himself more than capable of speaking without it. Meanwhile, I think Palin would greatly benefit from a teleprompter. I can't tell what the heck she is trying to say half of the time. Her speeches just sound like random GOP policies stringed together with some patriotic rhetoric in between.

Yes. And that is exactly why most public speakers do keep a pen and paper handy for that very purpose, instead of covertly glancing at their hand while apparently not having a pen to take notes.

Meanwhile, I think Palin would greatly benefit from a teleprompter.
And now she can't very well use one anymore without admitting she is being hypocritical!

Sarah Palin's speech last night at the Republican Convention was loved, hated, praised, criticized, some became enthused, "alarmed" and some were described as "panicked." Quite a variety of reactions, then news comes that her teleprompter malfunctioned.

I don't think I have ever seen anybody walking around with notes on their hands, much less a politician during an engagement. They use paper instead. Now, there are certainly occasions where you might find yourself with a pen and no paper, so you might scribble a phone number or a note on on your hand instead. But other than that, I doubt it happens much, if at all.

Got any evidence whatsoever that this is "something normal every day people do"?

I write on my hand when I need to remember something that I'm going to forget forgetting. If I have to stop to do something on my way home from work, for example, I'll write it on my hand. I can't put it in my pocket and forget about it, and I can't misplace it. This is pretty different of course.

She wouldn't've gotten this much flak for having an index card or a even scrap of paper. There is no way there was no paper around, even if she had to rip the corner off a schedule or something. The thing that's obnoxious about this is that it comes across as though she's trying to hide her notes. Using notes is fine.

again the problem is not that she wrote on her hand its that she had just slammed Obama for his teleprompter while reading things from her hand

I get that, but the bigger hypocrisy is the whole flameup she had over the word "******". Apparently, she's no more immune from the requirement to fellate Rush Limbaugh than her GOP colleagues.
