What Music are You Listening To? - 67, the Summer of Love

An older friend of mine recently died, and was given a city-wide funeral. Listening to a soprano sing "Thank You, Lord" in harmony with a a choir and the audience. She overwhelms the mic, but as someone who was there, who experienced this, it recreates the moment without concessions to technology. Most of the crowd were in tears.

I hop on the internet and this is the first thing I hear.
I listen to it for a while
and I realize
There is nothing we can do

Hey, y'know, I think this song might not really be about riding a magic carpet, after all... :mischief:

The lineup for "Sick New World 2024" was announced. All these bands play on one day? If they all played just one song, I think it would still be too much for me. Still, an interesting mix, covering bands and musical styles from the '80s to the present, with a heavy focus on the '90s. There must be a bunch of different stages with bands playing simultaneously. Still, I'm having a hard time imagining Slowdive and Slaughter to Prevail in the same concert.

I don't think I have it in me for a huge festival like this anymore, but I'd love to see the goth & industrial bands here: Ultra Sunn, Killing Joke, Front 242, Frontline Assembly, Swans, and Danny Elfman. Lords of Acid, Nitzer Ebb and VNV Nation would be another good concert. For a small metal show, I'd take System of a Down, Jinjer and maybe Spiritbox. Alice In Chains and Static-X are both missing key band members, and I don't know who's replaced them.

Lots of bands here I've never heard of, of course. I need to find out who Kim Dracula is, that name is great.

EDIT:
Wikipedia said:
Samuel Wellings, known professionally as Kim Dracula, is an Australian alternative/indie music artist from Hobart, Tasmania whose songs have achieved popularity on TikTok.[2] They[3] are known both for original work and for metal covers of songs not typically associated with the genre. They became popular on YouTube for their authorial song "Make Me Famous" from their album A Gradual Decline In Morale. Dracula was previously the vocalist of Australian heavy metal band Jesterpose, which formed in 2017 and released the EP COVID-19 in 2020.[4]

Kim Dracula's name is a reference to the Deftones song of the same name, from their album Saturday Night Wrist.

In November 2020, Kim Dracula released on TikTok a metal cover of "Paparazzi" by Lady Gaga.[5] The song was subsequently released to Spotify on 11 December 2020.
Hm. Sounds like a novelty act, but I may give them a listen anyway.

I approve of anything related to Ozzy Osbourne musically.

The series started airing here recently. The music's one of the best parts about it.

Depending on the stage setup assuming they don't put similar bands on different stages at the same time I could do VNV Nation, Front 242, Front Line Assembly, Nitzer Ebb & Combichrist and be happy in hope of seeing Killing Joke, too. I haven't seen VNV Nation on stage since Mark left & the Belgians are on my newly formed bucket list and every gig could be their last. The cost for the daily ticket is a bit more than a cup of coffee but not seriously pricey for a decent lineup but then again my reference mostly is local prices.

During the corona years I spent too much time on the Tube and found or re-found lots of crap but also quite a lot decent stuff. This is of the latter sort as Germans are obviously known for their sense of humour and Lederhosens tongue-in-cheek is a solid combo.
