I'm taking Latin in high school.
Setting aside the impracticality of that solution, are you not aware that we have people of African descent in these countries also?
Yes I know that, and a fair few also served in bomber command in WW2, I would expect people from the old Commonwealth countries to have heard of the Dam Busters regardless of their race, creed or colour.
The name was not a slur, believe a Wing Commander who has aircrew from the West Indies, Canada, Aus, NZ etc etc would be throwing slurs about ?
Life can be offensive sometimes. People just need to deal with that sometimes and carry on. This was apparently the dog's name and is even on the dog's gravestone over in the UK.

Don't be so disingenuous. The word is hardly applied to any other situation than a person, and usually in a derogatory sense.
