1994 for Arena. Black Isles game were mostly in the 90s, so they get the prize for the Second Millennium instead.

I don't know what to make of Dragon Age: Inquisition. I think I'll get it. I think it's a very good game as long as I don't expect a proper Bioware RPG, because that era seems to have come to an end. The reviews are all over the place, and Metacritic isn't helpful either unless you read every single one of them. One guy gives 2/10 because it has gay people, one gives 0 because he has so many friends and badges on Steam and this game made him install Origin, and another one starts his "review" with 'I don't know if this game is good or bad, but it uses this new copy protection...' and then gives it a 0. If there was just some kind of filter to remove the fan boys and the whiny little you-know-whats.
I'm left with the impression that I am going to be relieved, impressed, and disappointed at the same time.

I played for a couple of hours last night and really struggled with the key bindings. Not sure WTH to do just to do things or how combat is actually supposed to play out here. Like... okay, take Skyrim. Combat in Skyrim is basically you have to aim each blow at whoever. Contrast that with DA:Origins where you basically just picked your opponent and then the game would determine hits and misses. Inquisition seems to be some bizarro mix of the two.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed playing it, but it is going to take me a bit to figure out and become natural with the controls. Twas good to see Leliana again!

Hmm. I have an XBOX 360 controller for PC sitting on my desk. I tried it with a couple of games but found it vastly inferior to using keyboard and mouse controls. I'll give it a try tonight with Inquisition and see what's up. Thanks for the tip.

However, Steam does not have Arena and Daggerfall, to the best of my knowledge, nor Civ I, CivNet, Civ II, Civ II ToT, Fantastic Worlds, or Conflicts in Civilization.

I would also vouch for SimCity if you ignore that latest iteration. For me, the glory of SC4 is barely enough th to make up for the recent disgrace.

I have no idea why you'd want arena or daggerfall on steam when they're on Bethesda's website for free

I know, I have them, but they are -not- on Steam, which means Steam does not have the complete franchise, so you can't really use TES as an argument for Steam against Origin.

For me, it's because I can ignore crappy plotlines if I want to and go make my own crappy story. Given that I usually think of 99% of any plotline as crappy, no matter what medium or genre its from, this is a wonderful relief for me.

The one thing I hate about Skyrim is how annoying it is to organize all your gear and weapons. Why can't I see a picture of my dude and drag the axe to the right-hand weapon slot? Why does it have to be so backwards?

I would play it more if it wasn't for that. Makes gear management really annoying.

Dragon Age: Origins is your friend. That said, I really don't mind at all how it works in Skyrim after I discovered SkyUI. The inventory system pretty much sucked before that, and I do sympathize with console players for not being able to do any better. Course, that leads to the whole PC Gaming Master Race thing...

Clearly the Baldur's Gate/NeverwinterNights/IcewindDale games were far better than all this newfangled crap. Skyrim just has showy graphics.
