What Video Games Have You Been Playing VII: The Real Ending is Locked Behind a Paywall

Of course Europe may ban MT's altogether (doubtful but they may regulate them) but I can't see the US following suit.

There may actually be some hope on that front in the US. Apparently the state government of Hawaii has joined Belgium in declaring loot boxes a form of gambling and is even opening up an investigation against EA for predatory business practices.

Man, I bet EA never thought the whole loot box thing would blow up in their faces quite like this. This shameless attempt at a cash grab has them now facing a large consumer boycott, investors pulling out and selling their shares of the company, and now possible legal action being taken against them by the state of Hawaii and maybe some EU governments.

Ya done messed up EA. Ya done messed up.

Yeah I agree, it looks like their business strategy just took a serious blow. Hopefully it costs the shareholders enough to make them demand the company change tact.

I need to kick this Fallout 4 habit. Geeze it's sucked up all of my free time over the long weekend.

I do hope you're using Sim Settlements. :)

I've been back to playing Third Age Total War again. It really is an amazingly done mod. I'm sure I've said it before, but that mod is the only reason I purchased Medieval 2. Steam says I've logged 212 hours in Medieval 2 and all 212 of those hours have been spent playing the Third Age mod. I haven't even touched the base, unmodded game.

That's with me and HOI4 and Kaiserreich. Perhaps to not as an extreme; I have played a few games of vanilla and of Millenium Dawn, but I was there mostly for good old alt-hist WW2 funtimes

^Kaiserreich is - if anything - an alt-history nazi-oriented (or cis-nazi, if you will) mod. Not surprised it got so popular (i obviously don't mean you) with the paradox forums crowd :mischief: The thought of an alternative reality where Germany has won ww1 tickles them.

Not going to disagree with you that there is a serious problem with fascists and fascist-sympathisers in the HOI community. In fact, I've taken serious flak for my comments about that regards on the mod I'm working on. That being said, I really dispute the idea that KR is a nazi mod.

Firstly, there's no nazis in power in Germany, nor is there a path for them to get into power. The German Empire is reactionary, but it is reactionary in the sense of junker control of the state. The Nazis, while open to working with the rich industrialists, actually hated the junkers (which was mutually shared), and they tried to block his rise to power, including a failed assassination attempt sometime in the war. Any nazi that wanks to the survival of the German Empire is honestly a bad nazi; their anthem literally refers to fighting reactionaries just as much as it does with communists.

Now, that isn't to say that the Iron Guard isn't in power in Romania, and that other nazi-esque groups can't also get into power in some other countries, but they almost universally are actually opposed to Germany and want to cut them down to size due to percieved slights due to the post-war settlements and status quo. Goering is also admittingly the head of their African colonies, but he's explicitly shown as a terrible person and incompetent leader, and if he isn't removed by Berlin, African nationalist movements tend to explode as he loses any central authority over the people he's trying to oppress. It's really not a flattering deception.

Secondly, I consider KR to be more of a left wing wank than a right wing wank (which is why I love it so much, admittingly). Yeah, the Bolsheviks are ultimately defeated due to Germany's mary sue powers in the backstory, but that allows a much better form of socialism, syndicalism, to come to the forefront with the successful French and British revolutions. Socialism takes a much more anti-authortorian bent in its development, with both the Commune of France and the Union of Britain being, at least to me, more pure expressions of democracy than in their respective capitalist states. While tankies can get into power (and god I hate the mosely wanking by the community in particular; it's gotten way too far and I'm afraid people are starting to unironically romanticize a literal fascist), they are not guaranteed and in fact oftentimes never do. Also, pretty much every nation can go red besides Germany herself. Socialist America, Socialist Russia, Socialist Norway, Socialist Ireland, etc, etc. If I just want to spend my whole day doing nothing but overthrowing the capitalist mode of production in every corner in the globe, I can do that in KR. And it feels great.

But yeah, definitely a problem with the community that has attached itself with the mod. Creeps me the hell out. But I still wouldn't call it a nazi mod, much in the same way that people trying to twist Orwell's novels to be a general criticism of socialism instead of a specific criticism of Stalinism that they are, doesn't make them capitalist books.

Edit: Also not sure what you're trying to imply with the cis-nazi comment :hmm:

Presumably, what the Romans meant by cis and trans - near and far.

Yeah, we wouldn't want to draw attention away from other platforms that are as equally convenient as Steam and just as cheap like, uh, ehm... y'see... uh...
GOG ?
Oh, sorry, you said "just as cheap", not "cheaper" :p

Out of nowhere I started playing WoW again after 3 years of not playing, just because of the amazing Cinematic for Battle for Azeroth. I don't even know why, it's boring as hell, but now that I've paid my 13 Euro, I have to use up the game time I have, right? Sadly, I'll probably make more than enough gold to buy another month of gametime via the WoW Token, so I guess I'm stuck with wasting my time on the game again. Bummer.

I have the game on PS4 so I'm very limited in my mod selection. Even if the mods were offered, I don't think I'd install many more than the four or five I already have. The game struggles on PS4 and mods make it worse.

Ended up buying Stellaris, Torment: Tides of Numenera, and Tyranny on the steam sale.
I haven't really played Stellaris, but it seems a lot like a real time version of GalCiv3 with a lot of micro and fiddly-bits-for-the-sake-of-fiddly-bits going on.
Torment is pretty fun, but my god someone needs to an editor to hack through all the purple prose and pretentious preening of whoever wrote the dialogue; especially on the flashback or alternate-personality sections when I get a bunch of strange names thrown at me with no context for who they are or what I should be answering.
Tyranny feels a lot smoother than Pillars of Eternity, and the companions aren't a bunch of wierdos who recently escaped from a mental hospital. However, they still have the problem in that they don't give me enough tanks. So far, I have found one NPC to serve as a tank -and given I'm siding with the Scarlet Chorus, he is on the verge of leaving me (he is aligned with the Disfavored Legion). Seriously Obsidian. I don't need a bunch of options for squishy mages and only one tank option. Give me some more freaking tanks! The game is also terribly optimized. Pillars had atrocious load times, but it had at least some large maps. The maps in Tyranny are ridiculously tiny! No chance to explore the nooks and crannies of mountain passes or find hidden caves. Nope.

I haven't played pillars of eternety since august
I should go back to it, but I'm kind of afraid to be lost because of how long time's gone
Wihch I mean is a pretty self-fulfilling prophecy

I have this same problem. I have to keep playing a game every day or else I start forgetting details. More than a week and I might as well just start over.

Is that a mod for the game?

I had a lot of fun building my settlements, one way of generating funds was setting up massive water farm operation along with the needed defenses and equipping all the settlers with weapons, Armour
In fact I hoped that it would be expanded a lot more
