What Videogames have You Been Playing XX: Virtual Imperialism

I expect we will see more games emerging that are designed to be completed in a one hour time period as a result of this.
…or maybe they'll usher in a return of the age of LANs and/or single-player games.

Nothing can quite beat the flow of a good trackmania map.
Been having a lot of fun with returning to Trackmania games after I played Trackmania Nations Forever a lot in the late 2000's-early 2010's. And it being actually good to play on a keyboard is so rare for a racing game nowadays.

Such a precise time-attack focused game just seems to hook me in so much, and the daily "Cup of the Day" competitions are a really cool way of having an almost e-sport-feeling competition everyday that literally anyone can join where also the top players are competing, but you can still fight for places in your division on a map thats new for everyone. In recent ones I\ve been around top 20 Norway which is fun to see. Not usually my style of games, I play zero other racing games but it's just so good.

I don't recall this fight specifically, but sometimes it takes just a right spell to turn the fight much simpler. Alternatively, I recall "cheesing" some fights by putting most of my party beyond the visual range, using one character to trigger the whole mess and lead the enemies into a barrage of area of effect spells like fireball. Of course, the bait had to be prepared for it. There are ways to either dispel magic effects or be immune to them at least for short period of time.

Where on earth Faerûn are you stuck?
I was stuck in the Dragon's Eye, battling the Lizard King. Arrrgh. I finally had to switch to Story Mode to beat them without wiping out my entire party. I have switched back to regular mode and I am now being fed my knickers by some trolls on the lower level. I should have made the difficulty less, I suppose. Oh well, I shall soldier on.

@Sarin The problem was that I had to defeat all the lizard men to get the fireball spell that would have killed them all. Oh the irony.

Typical of many ARPGs. You only get the skill to kill the big bad boss after you kill it without it.

I went exploring in Second Life again:

Some people take the time and make the effort to make some really beautiful places. I am really enjoying exploring around. I'm finding some stuff that is really worth spending time to get to see.

More to come...

That's some masterful work there!

That last one… that forest… so green… so shiny…

My heavy weapons character in FO76 got her 1st legendary weapon, a quad ammo capacity .50 LMG, so it can fire 1000 rounds before needing to reload. At level 35 I've only found something like 300 .50 rounds!

Can you buy them?

When using autos in FO4 I rotate my weapons and don't always tank be around with the "best" one.

Eg I use a plasma Infused assault rifle, staggering radium rifle, plasma gun (best damage) and a legendary kneecapping 10mm and laser rifle.

In addition to grenades, instigating missile launcher and a plasma Infused mini gun or laser gating rifle.

.45 ammo is reasonably abundant. Most of my weapon legendaries are not the best eg S tier but they're good enough and the S tier weapons are in Far Harbour and Nuka World (kiloton radium rifle/splattercannon).

Keeping an automatic plasma in ammo tends to add up fast.

Yes (expensive) or make it, more doable but LMGs eat lead.
This character is a heavy gunner, not a commando so until she gets a minigun or gatling laser the .50 is her only weapon using those skills.
Luckily she is very strong so just bashing things works for her. She'll save her LMG for "special" enemies.

Similar theory then. I use autos and heavy weapons (more the former).

I don't generally buy ammo though just cycle things.

All I achieved today in lockdown was link up the NE settlements in FO4 and setting up farming areas where the enimies respawn.

Cover the map in Minutemen artillery spots.

Bad Company 2 had very disappointing gameplay. I only made it two or three missions in before dropping it like a hot potato.

My recent experiences with ID software's games have taught me the value of pumping ammunition into enemies and even the landscape.

Acquire more ammunition.

After several breaks and restarts, I finally finished Jagged Alliance 2. Still one of best turn-based tactical games around.

Lately been playing more FTL, with the Multiverse mod on. That mod's quality is excellent, this is the closest thing we'll get to FTL 2. > 100 player ships added, new species/sector types/ending routes etc. Most of the weapons are well-balanced, too.

Some of the playable ships are more or less free wins to good players, even on hard/extreme. Others are (intentionally) worse than vanilla Stealth B, which is the worst winrate ship on hard in vanilla. Most are in the middle and will feel closer to normal FTL.

Playing Rome Total War 2 as the Suebi and it has been pretty hectic given how poor I am at the game. Never really got a hang of all the new unit relations/stats/interactions so I've had some particularly bloody battles of attrition, and my Lugii allies decided to implode which kicked off a whole series of desperate wars as what had been a solid flank was now falling apart and opened up to invasion. Think I finally started to stabilize things, though I'm wondering if my opening moves were a mistake. The Suebi start out at war with the Boii to the south - a celtic faction. Last time I played the Suebi I immediately went for the Boii and it was a very close run thing and felt sort of cheesy. They start out with a number of armies and a good garrison, so I find it tricky to get enough troops to defeat their armies and have enough to deal with the garrison and the army that retreated there. Plus once you get it you have massive public order penalties from different cultures.
This game I decided to ignore the Boii and go after some of the smaller adjacent Germanic factions. Unfortunately, that seems to have left the Boii available to invade the Lugii which caused problems and through a strange chain of events, resulted in the Lugii ending up along the Rhine.

I've been struggling with getting a clean enough victory I can deal with whatever enemy forces have retreated into the city. Mostly I end up taking the city by sniping it through autoresolve when their army moves away, and then waiting for them to attrition into oblivion. Haven't figured out Rome2 sieges yet. Got pretty good at Med2 sieges, but Rome2 are still a mystery to me.

MechWarrior5, amazing experience, so far I just enjoying the basic battle mechanic, if I judge this game correctly, this is basically like space Mecha warband. Amazing.

I do love me some stompy stompy robots.
