I remember one time a moderator was announced and I was confused because I didn't recognize the name and wondered how they got it if I had never saw them before. But they had actually posted a lot in the Civ forums.
I first came here (OT) out of sheer boredom but refrained from posting until I felt I had to answer a particularly hare-brained post from one of our well-loved local personalities. 6,500 posts later, I'm still here.

I originally came in to ask a couple of legitimate questions on some topics because I knew there were some knowledgeable posters around from lurking. I only started sticking around when I realized I don't have to post in every single thread but only when I think I have a valid point that is worth posting. I usually try to stick by this rule, though admittedly, when I'm bored I find myself posting far more (and the quality of these types of posts are usually far lower).
I had viewed OT before I registered during my lurker pre-registration days. I mainly posted in the Altered maps section, but later got involved in politics.
first OT post (don't even agree with this point anymore).
CFC was my first forum that I posted on, but I already expected the liberals as it was an internet forum, what surprised me in my early days was VRWC, Mobboss, and Dom3k actually challenging them.
Very similar, I lurked during the Civ3 days on the Civ3 forum, signed up and started posting during the Civ4 days, but never got over here until around BtS.
First impressions... it's been awhile. I remember hating "the immortal one" (or something like that) and getting into a quote war with him. Learned a lot from watching other posters, and getting messy in the debates. I remember I used to read things very seriously, and the sarcasm/intentionally-trollish posts would go over my head or lead me to arguing pointlessly. Now I'm the guy doing it.
