The Fire Department thread got me thinking...what if almost all govt services were paid for by user fees. Assume the user fee would not be prohibitively expensive, but you'd notice the money (like 70 bucks a year for fire coverage, etc).

What would you be willing to pay for? What would you be willing to go without? Would you pay a fee for anything you wouldn't personally use? (For example, paying the K12 public school fee even if you've already graduated and have no children). Let's also assume that the more people who pay the fee, the cheaper the fee would be.

Poll coming.

(For example, paying the K12 public school fee even if you've already graduated and have no children).

We have to pay for the public schools even though we home school. The services that I would pay fees for would be the police and the fire department. Also the courts. And the Downtown Fund, of course.

Your poll lacks multiple choice.

And it also lacks the question of "what would you be able to pay?"

I doubt if I were to live in a crappy trailer home that I could afford spending all these extra fees, like for fire protection.

Yeah, I screwed the poll up. If the mods want to close this so I can make a new poll, that'd be dope. THANKS I LOVE YOU GUYS

If it was a choice of pay the fees or not have those things at all, I would pay the fees for most of them. The only ones I'm not sure about are public transport and schools.

I would consider paying an annual fee for public transport if it were a lot better than the UKs public transport currently is.

I don't have children, so I am reluctant to pay for schools. However it might benefit the country as a whole, and me indirectly (while the kids are in school, they aren't stealing my car). So depending on the amount I probably would pay it.
