What's the best game ever made? Except civilization?

Don't know... the ones I have logged the most hors on are probably Guild Wars, Super Smash Bros. Melee, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, and the Madden Series. Mario games and Pokemon also used to get a lot of play.

If we are simply looking at greatest in terms of most important or significant, probably Super Mario Bros.

I am sure Perfection will back me up on this one: SimCity 2000!

I couldn't decide on only one.
I can't even decide on one per genre even ...

Planescape: Torment, despite some flaws... but it's probably the most atmospheric game ever made.

Myth 2, Diablo 2 and battlefield 1942 were also great....

I've probably had the most fun playing RISK 2 (RISK 1 is possibly the worst game ever made)
But I wouldn't call it the best game ever.

How about Dungeon Keeper 2.

I couldn't decide on only one.
I can't even decide on one per genre even ...

I second that. I've played so many really good games over the years.

If you put it into one per genre it becomes so much easier for me.

Action/Adventure: Outcast
First-person shooter: Half-Life
Fighting: Soul Calibur
Role-playing: Skies of Arcadia
Platform: Sonic the Hedgehog 3 with Knuckles
Simulations: TIE Fighter
Strategy: Civilization II

Hell, that was just a basic list without going into the specific sub-genres, in which I would have had a whale of a time :D

That said, that list kind of bemuses me - I started gaming in the early 90's with the NES and MegaDrive, but the bulk of those games were made in the late 90's/early 00's (what do we use for this first decade ). I suppose that was when I started really getting into gaming.

using Kans list.... simply because I like order to my madness

Action/Adventure: Ultimate Alliance *technically*
First-person shooter: Battlefield 2
Fighting: Mortal Kombat
Role-playing: Knights of the old republic
Platform: Donkey Kong
Simulations: TIE Fighter (I had this game, didnt mind it, but generally dislike simulations)
Strategy: Rome Total War. maybe medieval 2 but that may just be because its new, want to see if it replaces Rome after two more months

Metal Gear Solid 3.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

Hmm... Probably not the best, but the one I enjoyed the most. And still do.

If forced to pick, Secret of Mana for the SNES. Nostalgia FTW!

Ultima online.
(WOW players have no taste XD)

Well the first makes all others possible so let's go with Pong.
