Even if wars are not cool, different wars must have different levels of coolness. Right? So answer the question!

Ancient/medieval warfare, mostly because the soldiers actually had to fight instead of just guiding cruise missiles and whatsnot.

Thats how I feel. It was more personal warfare, and required mastery of weapons that could not be effectively achieved in a period of 6 months.

If only legions, phalanx, knights, samurai, mongol horse archers could meet in the battlefield.

ok, i actually like medieval war, where there are flanking, massive army and combination of arms and improve tactics. Where a small army could sometime overwhelmed a larger army. Thats the odd i like.

Oh I'd also like to say that chic on chic warfare is the koolest.

I'm going with the medieval warfare. Knights, chivalry, and hand to hand combat! Where the only thing bigger than you army was your ego. You had to know how to use your weapon, you spent a good portion of your life mastering it, and it's hella lot more satisfying that pushing a button and watching a Tomwhawk spiral into the sunset.

Mix of diplomatic, economic and psychological warfare. The kind won without even firing a shot. ;)

Ancient examples:
(1) Qi's surrender at the end of the Warring States period.
(2) Southern Tang caving in to the Song without a fight even though they were the most powerful among the 10 kingdoms.
(3) All too many cities, kingdoms and whatnot that chose to surrender to the Mongols rather than get massacred.

Recent examples:
(1) Nazi Germany's annexation of Austria and half of Czechoslovakia.
(2) The Cold War ending the way it did.

Ancient warfare.

Bloody, vicious face-to-face, slaughter, kinda like a street brawl with a thousand times the people and everyone has swords, spears, shields, armor etc.

It would have been incredible to take part in. A skilled warrior could no doubt kill hundreds in a single battle with just his own sword.....

Diplomatic ;)

All right war isn't "cool" it's a horrible thing... So I chose the death robot option;)

That being said... I like modern warfare, because it is fought so much faster. You don't get 10 year sieges etc. You just fight it out, and you gotta' get it right the first time. That being said I like the Alexander idea of a single person actually being able to carve out his/her own nation.

I also think a full-scale nuclear war, and following conventional war with whatever's left would be incredibly cool. (If I was in orbit, or far enough away not to get my ass pwn'ed)

Going by my interest in the warfare of the Second World War, and how it really seemed to be the end of an era before modernised computer systems and long-range warfare, I chose the late-industrial era warfare. One thing though:

and rode tanks,

I read that and immediately thought of Russian troops riding bare-turret on T-34's during the Battle of Kursk. Good times
