Where to have a stag do in Belgium

My brother is getting hitched, he lives in the US and is having the ceremony in the UK. He is a bit of a beer aficionado and wants to have his stag do in Belgium, mostly for the beer. Does anyone have any recommendation about which town would be the best to have it in? He has suggested Ghent and Hainaut, mostly I think because they were recommended here. I thought I would try and get some personal recommendations here.

He is not likely to want a classic debauched stag do, but we would want a decent night-life, and a certain level of debauchery would probably help ;). We would certainly want a very large selection of beer, but my recollections of Belgium was that that would be available just about everywhere.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Brussels is probably the only place where you can get some decent debauchery, and of course they have plenty of great bars there.

Brugge is a much nicer city, and if you want just to drink beer and relax it's a better call, but it's a small town (that said it's very touristic so depending on the day and time of the year I'm sure there will be good parties going on).

This was my worry. I have been to Brugge (for about 3 hours), and it does not strike me as the sort of place where one could really be debauched.

I'm surprised Belgium is the choice here. Is the beer really that superior?
I would prefer London.

Well, he's jumping from stateside so he doesn't want to get shot at his wild debauched bachelor's party. He probably doesn't want to get glassed either.

I am sure it is not out of fear that he is not going to london. He has lived in some of the dodgyer bits of London and Manchester in the past. He is just missing the great british beer festival, or else I am sure it would have been London.

I think that it is that the beer in Belgium is very different, rather than better. Though the nightlife may well not make up for it.

Belgium is thought of as the place with the best beers in the world by beer drinkers here. It probably ranks fairly high on most North American's lists. As far as those who enjoy the taste of beer go, not those who pound back light beer to get wasted and don't care about the taste.

Because English beer is like having sex on a canoe. I think you know the answer to that.

I do not recall that being the joke about English beer. I do recall a different joke:

Americans drink weak beer that kind of tastes like urine.
Canadians drink strong beer that kind of tastes like urine.
English people drink warm urine that kind of tastes like beer.
Aussies drink anything with alcohol in it.

I'd recommend Ghent, Antwerp or Leuven
Bruges is nice for a touristic visit, but maybe not so much for a "stag do"
Leuven and Ghent are student towns with a busy night life (Leuven is a bit smaller, but you can visit the Stella brewery :-) )
Antwerp is a bit bigger, and there's plenty of stuff to do as well.

I suppose you can have a good time in Brussels, but it's bit difficult to find the right places. You may need some help from the locals...

I'm not so familiar with places to go in the french speaking part of our country. By the way, Hainaut is not a city, it's a province. I think Namur may be an interesting place. Personally, I'd stay away from Charleroi or Liege, but maybe that's just a Flemish prejudice.

Anywhere in Belgium you'll find a big election of beers. A famous place in Brussels is the "Delirium Café"

Ghent is great! Do it! He might meet me here, since I come there often!

Southern Netherlandic beer FTW.

It makes Heineken taste like piss.

Heineken doesn't taste like piss?
