Which is the superior dialect of German?

I was under the impression that Plattdeutsch only referred to a dialect of German spoken in East Frisia (Ostfriesland)

I lived there and it is uncomprehensible to German speakers. It sounds even weirder than Dutch, to someone who speaks standard German and no other Germanic language.

Anway, I vote for PLattdeutsch, cause in Ostfriesland there is a custom that you say "MOIN" to every person you pass in the street, and I thought that was cool.

well there are several variations of Plattdeutsch at least all over the north-western part of Germany. having grown up in Münster I always had a fondness for Westphalian Platt of wich I understand maybe two or three words only.

i dont know where the myth is from that that is something upper german.
it's actually a north german thing.

in austrobavarian the ch in "ich" is completely left out btw.

I lived right here in Germany. I mean, after we were done with the immigration camp crap and the German government gave us a house to live in till we figured out our next step.

It was pretty cool - windmills and cows everywhere. We'd bike to the north sea from time to time.. I actually kinda miss it

In teh schools and places of business regular/standard German was used, but the locals spoke that very strange version of Plattdeutsch to eachother. I couldn't make out a word of it. Heck, we were close enough to Holland to get Dutch tv, and I understood that more than I understood Plattdeutsch (and this was when I was fluent in German)

Considering the forefathers of Godwynn came from the Black Forest and Northeast Switzerland, it is scientifically provable that the Allemanic dialects are the superior dialects.

The question is, can the awesomeness of Allemanic make up for the inferiority of the Viennese dialect so Oberdeutsch can still win or will those Plattdeutsch speakers win because of mediocrity?

I have to agree with the quote and have to add that the dialect spoken in the Bavarian Forest is even further out on the scale of incomprehensibility.

odd, most Germans (I know) consider the northern city dialects, or maybe it is the people, to be rather prim. for endearing I'd go with Berlinerisch.

Fränkisch is best for cursing

English is the best for cursing. Germans, contrary to popular belief, are not very good at it other than using Fäkalsprache. the cursing award should got to the Bavarians if any.

aye, up until the moment you hear a proper dialect. like I said before, I grew up in Westphalia and Westphalian Plattdeutsch is all but gibberish to me. it sounds nice, I feel like I should understand at least a bit of it but I am merely a deer in the headlights of an incoming car.
