Steel Magnolias (1989 69% rotten tomatoes)

Dolly Parton and Shirley MacLaine star in this comedy-drama about a young woman, played by Julia Roberts, who has Type 1 diabetes but who insists on having a baby against the advice of her doctors. With some tragic consequences.

This movie didn't do it for me. Though I nearly always enjoy watching MacLaine.

And I don't have a clue why it's called Steel Magnolias. I guess it may be because it's about a group of women who are strongly supportive of each other.

Ben Affleck's film about a town which has more than its fair share of professional bank robbers.

This was quite a nice film, which kept me guessing right till the end.

Lone Survivor.

Featuring Markie Mark in yet another war role. The first hour and a half was kind of average in my opinion. The final half hour was good and I would have rather seen more of that kind of content instead of the initial build-up. I don't know if I'd recommend it. There are other "based on a true story" war movies that are presented in a more engaging way.

i think the scenes with where kumail is with the parents are great, the rest is mostly just decent, though some of that is likely my bias against this type of movie

And I don't have a clue why it's called Steel Magnolias. I guess it may be because it's about a group of women who are strongly supportive of each other.

They are women from the south. "Magnolias" is an allusion to them as enduring Southern women (and the trees are kind of pretty.) Magnolias are also a symbol of nobility. The "Steel" comes from the fact that they are very strong women who stand up to adversity.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle. A nonsense movie. But an entertaining nonsense movie. Obviously not intended to be taken seriously. But lots of entertaining action.

13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.

Decent "based on a true story" movie. Not super engrossing but a good enough watch. Jim from The Office does not make a good mercenary but he gave it a solid try.

The Final Year is a documentary that covers the foreign policy initiatives of the 2016 Obama administration. It focuses on the former president and a few diplomatic officials: ambassador to the UN Samantha Power, Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes, Secretary of State John Kerry, and National Security Advisor Susan Rice. It's enjoyable enough but a by-the-numbers listing of trips: UN meetings, Cuba,Vietnam, Japan, Laos, Greece. There's the expected humanization of the officials, with Ms. Power's kids getting a day in the limelight and Mr. Rhodes struggling with the media. The debate between a values-driven diplomacy versus a realist one is touched upon in disagreements between Ms. Powers and Mr. Rhodes. A decent way to spend 89 minutes if you're interested in US politics.

Comedy horror with Jenny Agutter.

I suppose the transformation scenes, for the time, were quite well handled, but somehow this film lacks a unifying theme or development.

And apparently silver bullets are no longer necessary.

The Space Between Us.

It's a boy meets girl/fish out of water story about a boy who was born on Mars that wants to go to Earth to meet his online girlfriend and his dad. It had a really strong first act and then fell on teenage drama tropes after that and got boring and melodramatic. There was a twist at the end that we saw coming from a mile away and it just got silly. Oh well.

L'ame de la banquise, a 1-hour documentary on how the present-day Inuit live in northern Greenland.

Edge of Tomorrow, a war film that makes Tom Cruise being shot in the head repeatedly the height of comedy.

Well it made me laugh, anyway.

Yeah it was pretty funny and overall a great film. They really let it down with the marketing which didn't really hint at the humor in the movie and just focused on the alien invasion/battle scenes.

I'm sure @Kyriakos (hahaha I can spell it right thanks to the autotag!) hated it though. Lol someone accused me of hating everything in the TV thread and my initial hot take was to point out that crown belongs on his head, not mine.

An American Werewolf in London i found a bit weird, interesting start but the movie totally lost it's path imo.
Overrated, if i had to judge.

Gave up while trying to watch "Deliver us from evil" (iirc 2014 movie).
Stars Hector, but otherwise isn't interesting at all.

I found the movie quite entertaining. I hear a sequel is in the talks.
I'd see it.
