While We Wait: Boredom Strikes Back

Still didn't understand this statement.

I only said I couldn't understand your statement in light of your refutation of what NK's interpretation of it.

So it would be.

"I couldn't understand your statement (in the light) (of your refutation) (of what NK's interpretation) (of it)." says Kraznaya.

Nope, still doesn't make sense. Can you restate it for the general audience? (actually mostly for me)

It's cute that your discussion for the sake of discussion has degenerated into finding typos, and irrelevant ones at that.

NK had to leave for bed. He'll be awake in the morning, and you will still be wrong, both about his understanding of your argument, and about the argument in general.

Now tell me, how is it "cute" when I point out a sentance that makes no sense, but noble when you claim to simply fail to grasp what I have said? At least I can point out where I am confused and ask for clarification. You hide behind vagaries of your creation.

Just saying. :p

I know, I know. Except it did go on to address the whole of his post, so not quite ;)

Anyway, Its bedtime for me also, actually long since, but I have been enjoying this. More tomorro I hope? Night Kraz.

Personally I have found it amazing that you have kept up a bankrupt side of argument going for so long. I feel like you have opened my eyes to the world - this is how legislative process is so delayed, how politicians impress stupid ideas upon the masses for their own benefit, and how good ideas are smothered and left to rot. You are always careful to avoid the actual question at hand, always picking at little deficiencies in your opponents' method of delivery or even their character to prevent them from engaging the goal at hand. It is truly a god of trollery and spam at work.

I applaud you, good sir, enemy of mankind, vice of forums, scum of the earth.

This is what I thought as I read both sides of the argument. But then gems appears in the rough, no matter the opinions of either side.

Average the opinions of all, and you get the right answer.

Following up on what NK said, I agree that economics and history are certainly not 'rigidly limited' topics. There are many, many ways to escape OTL economic and historical realities through clever (or sometimes exceedingly non-clever) play in an althistorical NES.

See, though, that's my favourite part of that quote. I could post it here again and it would be just as poignant. ;)

Terrance, that doesn't really apply to arguments with no substance. By now it's just a duel.

Cool. When will they need the pistols?

I have not yet read the discussion in the BirdNES discussion thread, but i can comment on the #NES comments and banning folks from there. My impression from the time I've spent there is that it is a free-wheeling place of interesting discussion, bad taste, inappropriate remarks and petty squabbling. Those who are banned tend to be for short periods for reasons that are never quite clear to me. To keep any NESer out permanently is just vindictive and personal and the pot calling the kettle black. It seems to be somewhat of a private club that does let some guests join in if they don't offend the sensibilities of the regulars.

I enjoy #NES as an alternative to pms or posting, but is much more of a private playground than a "Welcome NESers" arena.

#nes has never made any pretense to being a perfect utopia of cooperation and harmony, but to imply that it is exclusively a fractious place of bad taste and inappropriateness is simply not true. The utility for the development and operation of NESes and for the community is often there, but I won't deny that it is certainly elitist. (:p)

It's true that #nes is much more liberal with the use of punitive action than the forums themselves, mostly because it is more liberal in general. I already gave an explanation for why Abaddon was banned earlier in the thread.

#nes welcomes any NESers who wish to find another link with the community, and we welcome any new members looking for communication and interaction beyond the forum itself, especially those who are participating in NESes being moderated by #nesers or whose playerbase is formed primarily by #nesers.

#nes: NOW YOUNG AND WESTERN!

There once was a man who was against democracy. "The people are ignorant and makes bad choices!" So he decided to open two polls for the weight of a pig: One for everyone and one only for the wealthy (as he sees fit.)

He shows the results to everyone: the pig weights at (say, I can't remember details of this) 46 pounds and 5 ounces. Most of the wealthy men choose between 45-50 pounds, while the few of the greater group choose within that. There were choices of five pounds, a thousand and everything in between.

If you average all the guesses by the greater group, you get exactly 46 Pounds and 5 Ounces.

So you're saying, say, in a preschool exam, if a bunch of kids answered, say, "10" on "5+5=?" and a few slow ones answered anything from 1 to infinity, the average of their answers will be 10?

What you seem to be talking about, Terrance, is truthiness.

Edit: Disregard my previous edit if you saw it. If not, disregard this edit. :)

Compare what you wrote what I said to what I actually wrote. Note what I put first and what you left out. ;)

Re: golden mean fallacy. This is all quite dumb. :p We're not philosophers here, thank God. The golden mean principle is useless if what you're looking for is the truth, yes, but if you're looking for an optimal solution to some problem or another, then it seems like a good place to start, at any rate.

Which is not to imply any support for the idea of democracy, still. ;)

That's an odd characterization of the place that's been doing more recruiting for NESes than, um, pretty much anywhere or anyone else.

The only kind of person who isn't welcome at #nes is a total dick, which is why pasi is the only one on permban. If Kraz and I just got rid of people we disagreed with, then LightFang wouldn't have founder, Thlayli and Northen Wolf wouldn't have halfops, and people like Luckymoose would have been permbanned long ago.
