While We Wait: Part 2

Darkening, your powers of deduction never cease to inspire awe

I am neither confused about what das meant, nor particularly compelled by any excessive love for Thlayli or his Order. Neither am I driven by some mad hate for France. What I said was a joke and aimed at das, who, as the intended recipient, has received my jest accurately. I am not given to ambiguous statements attempting to display knowledge of secret goings-on, nor overtly arrogant threats and posturing. I see no reason for either, save for some small and silly self-satisfaction that can be had when one is justified in one's boasting. It is far more likely, however, that those who attempt to show off secret knowledge know very little of what is actually going on and that those who boast will feel their downfall all the more painfully. I am also not laboring under the delusion that the boasting causes one's downfall, merely that those who boast are given to failure and embarrassment, if only because they so loudly proclaimed their superiority.

And finally, as to your implication that I somehow failed as a French king, I will have it noted that I silently conquered Naples, Milan, Savoy, and secured deals with Venice and Tuscany, all while leaving the rest of Europe to its silly and destructive Crusades. Yes, there were two small engagements I was not successful in, but I am not one to continue foolishly attempting to take what is not worth the taking.

I would also like to point out that France is decidedly smaller since you took the reins.

First off, you can mutter all you wish, but you're clearly in the dark on talks between France and the Order. And I never said you were confused- I replied to das's confusement about my previous statement, nothing aimed towards you in that comment.

Secondly, despite what you may believe, I have not boasted anything on the forum. You want to hear boasting- go talk to Lucky. And while you may argue otherwise, I have never said anything suggesting hatred of France or love of the Order. What I said was something much simplier- that the french catholics were leaving because of the Papacy, not because of me. How you seem to get the hatred/love affairs of the Papacy out of that statement, I commend you. Yes, I did reply to your joke- just as others have done to my (obiviously unfunny) commentary.

In your complaint about my boasting of secret going ons, you've mistaken boasting for annoyance at Thy. I think its quite public that I was in talks of peace with him, and I simply asked for him to faciliate far-chance talks of reconciliation between the Papacy and the French king. Since you (appearntly) knew none of this, I expressed my annoyance at Thy and stated that there could be a chance of peace after this update. And before you even begin, France will not be getting anythign close to what I want. And I would for you to point out exactly where I am boasting, since very little I have said on this issue can be considered a boast (or a threat for that matter.) Point it out and I would be more than willing to apologize for poorly planned words.

And no, I did not (intend to at least) imply that you were the king responsible for France's defeats. Rather, I posted a question to das asking under who France was defeated, through on your commentary the deals with Venice appearently didn't stand. In addition, at your appearnt jab, France has no claim to anything in this war- I refuse to repeat myself for a 15th time. And I now see no reason to defend myself.

I apoligize ahead of time if for some reason you interpert these words as assualts or whatever you want to call them.

Yes this was edited.

Its occurred to me that this is sort of (very) disturbing:

...and you aren't even modding anything. That said, all my NES folders taken together still would at most be one and a half GB, probably.

My NES folder is 2.36 mb and it includes all my order sets, updates and stories. :(

I have a everything else I don't use all the time folder and it is 59 gb.

Mind you, I DO also have a separate .doc file of some 20 MB, which is mostly filled with various stories and alternate histories for this forum.

Meh, Symphony just has a lot of high-quality images (maps, plans, tech trees, etc). No competing with that. ;)

@Darkening - I think we both know Thlayli was a mistake that never should have happened. Take that how you will. :p Anyway, you'll have to excuse all my harmless jabs. If they have no basis, we have no problem and I apologize for my misinterpretations. (and I can certainly agree with you here -> "You want to hear boasting...").

In any case, after this update I should be able to get more involved (i.e. you know, send orders, read the updates, etc), so there will be much more sermonizing and quoting from Jeremiah and Lamentations. An ill-advised decision and an ill-timed absence has possibly done irrevocable harm to Catholic Christianity, but sufficient intercession by St. Celestine the Great provoking some divine intervention may set us back on course because, sadly, killing a copious number of people didn't quite work out. Whouldathunkit?

You know, much though I like BirdNES (and it seriously is one of the best historical NESes ever), sometimes I wish it would end soon so that I could make some interesting revelations about the secret dealings in this NES. There is a lot of stuff in there that is both interesting and educative.

I don't have such folders. I keep my NES stuff on pastie, in PMs, and in my head. Occasionally I dash off some notes to a document, but those never exceed 1MB and are inevitably deleted come next update.

The folder containing most of my maps only amounts to 800 Mb, and that's actually an all-purpose folder: probably only two thirds are NESing. There's obviously oodles of writing, but that's not in a separate folder.

My NESing folder is ~67 Mb, but it doesn't contain anywhere near all of my orders, maps, stats, or anything, and is made up of mostly my althists, plus rules and stats for the still-developing (and purposely slow) DaNES I.

das, if you email me the big alternate history .doc, I will...probably slaughter several trees in an effort to read it all. :p

I agree with you, das. Not that I have any revelations to make, but it would be interesting to hear it all. After Celestine died I lost a little vigour for the position (which was compounded by absence, etc), mainly because I started playing a less-than-noble character and espionage and secret dealings have always been my weak point.

On a different subject, [edited, moved to New NESes thread].

As much as I enjoy being lambasted by both sides in BirdNES, we really are NOT foaming at the mouth to slaughter every Protestant, evar. This turn, the Order has certainly "diversified" her holdings, and aligned herself with considerably different powers. Though I dedicated the most resources to Poland, I wouldn't be surprised if we've relocated entirely by the end of this turn.

So, I hope everyone protected their colonies well. ;)

As for the peace discussion, Darkening's statement was correct. If LittleBoots had come back earlier, I was completely prepared to abdicate power and leave for Jerusalem, or another more convenient location. Ethiopia's capture of the Holy Land, and the Pope's continued absence, made that difficult.

Oh, calm down Thy. I don't really hate you ;) A little more talking to the Pope would be nice, but I understand I was in and out there for a while. After the update comes out and I know whats going on again, we can talk about the Order's future with the Catholic Church if you still care to discuss it. But like I said, I don't know whats going on, so we'll see.

Seeing as North King will not finish my map for LuckNES V for a while because he has other things to do. I have considered reopening LuckNES III where it left off as a good number of people liked it.

The Khmer Empire is great. Worship our Khme-rness!
