Since my name keeps getting tossed around, I don't view anyone as a suck-up who: 1) does not provide useful services to the person in question, 2) provides such services but does not do them well, 3) does not secretly plot to use position gained under the person in question to achieve greater stature for themselves.
Anyone who attempts to suck-up but doesn't meet criterion 1 is a yes-man. Anyone who attempts it and doesn't meet criterion 1 and 2 is incompetent. Anyone who attempts it and doesn't meet criteria 1, 2, and 3 is an idiot. All three of these are vastly more dangerous than a proper lackey, and all three should be promptly shot (the ideal positions for the superior role being someone possessing 1 and 2, and for the inferior role possessing 1, 2, and 3--but the superior role does of course not want smart people with their own agendas).
Given nobody here really willing does my bidding, or does not do it terribly well--not to mention half of what I say being apparently ignored--nobody, from my view, qualifies as sucking up to me, and anyone who tries to tends to fall in those three categories, and again, should generally be shot on sight.
