While We Wait: Part 3

figured as much, but you threw me by mentioning NES i've not heard of.

And we want the rest of the people here to be nearly as good as well. ;)

It is most advisable for every serious NESer to have at least a basic historical atlas close by. Encarta is also highly recommendable.

I think most of us have a lot to be embarrassed about with regards to our earliest NESing experience; I, for one, couldn't re-read my posts in the first NES without cringing.
Well, earlier in that NES my comment was a really timid greeting asking if I could join, with lots of 'Please's and 'If you don't mind's and 'Thank you's. :p I was terrified of rejection, because I saw the NESers as a rather elite community.

That is funny as NESing can be one of the most time consuming things on this planet.

Does anyone else ever feel like a nerd playing in games where we lead countries and do diplomacy rather than you know doing the things like WoW?
I do enough social and athletic things to not feel like a nerd. I don't need MMORPG-related drugs.

No, you were killed by me and the FK amassing about 175 divisions between the two of us (IIRC; I had about 50 and Stormy had God-knows-how-many). No betrayals there, when he was already at war with you and I never joined no "Balkan Pact". :p

Back when I was a n00b, in Sheep's NES as Finland, I didn't do anything overly stupid (tried to deploy troops to Iraq, but ended up not doing so; then took over part of Norway and generally acted like an eager puppet of Germany's), but it didn't really last long enough to tell.
Yeah, you rebelled against me earlier (why do you always call the Greek rebels 'Byzantines'? It's irritating and repetitive). I mean that the Balkan pact which Thlayli organized openly went against all of the stipulations that they had agreed to upon receiving independence.

Actually I still make that same mistake. But I have run out of people to trust so it shouldn't happen again.
I though that I was still on your trust list.

QFT. Too athletic to be nerdy.

Me too. I have NEVER betrayed you. And the list of those I HAVE betrayed is quite short (excepting diplomacy, that game is ALL about betrayal.)

Lucky, you may do your dance and show about always being betrayed, but honestly you make your own bed. Take yourself out of the equation and tell me what you would honestly do if everything that happened to me happened to you. If you dare say that you wouldn't have made the same decision, then you're a damn liar.

This is true, but one could say that I was trusting you as well. Suffice it to say that was a tangled situation. :p
Delightfully tangled!

I remember getting totally destroyed by NK in one of Jason's NESes. It wasn't exactly a betrayal, but it still hurt.

I don't think I've betrayed anyone so far in a real NES. In DipNESes, yes, and Krimzon and I have done some pretty mean things to each other in DNES, but other than that...

You were Sri Lanka, and I was... some kind of India or other. I think that was a legitimate war, though. :)

I wouldn't have done it. It would only have led to me losing the resulting wars without a big strong ally.

@Iggy: You MIGHT still be on my trust list. ;)

Oh, it was. I just totally didn't see it coming. Now I'm much more paranoid. ;)

I thought I was okay in my first NES here. I had a lot of catching up to do, but I think I was closing the gap. Then again, I was never really tested in battle (beyond the battle simulation, the results of which were a complete surprise. I expected Mesoy to blow me out of the water).

I do miss it...

I finally got my *legitimate commercial copy* of Civ4 working on my new PC, thanks to some h4x0ring. In yo face, SafeDisc!!!

I just wanted to share that. Your conversation may now continue. Thankyou.

After what happend to me as Persia, I always write contingency orders in case I am attacked.......Alot of people lost my trust in that game.......Though I was a backstabber pretty badly too.....I destroyed Erez's Egypt, even though he was my ally, but failed to follow through after he dropped out and only annexed his Asian territories.....That was a bad mistake. It weakend Egypt up, allowing Ethiopia to take it and become a powerhouse.

You is a thief!

No way! I bought civ4 original back in 2005. It installed OK on my new Vista PC , but wouldn't recognise the DVD when it came to running the actual game. Something to do with Safedisc copy protection not liking the DVD-RW drive, which is the only drive on that machine. Seems that there is NO technical support for this issue. Thus I needed a no-CD hack to play the game I paid for!

I was just joshing you. I have no room to call anyone a thief. ;)

Aren't we, though? ;)

With regards to trusting/betraying people: I don't trust people in NESes (not to the point of abandoning all precautions, in any case), but in spite of the reputation that was probably largely created by my writing of a treason guide, I haven't actually back-stabbed all that many people, not when compared to some of the virtuosi out there. I certainly don't recall backstabbing anyone I was in an official or at least long-standing alliance with (not recently, in any case); I mostly betrayed people that approached me with proposals for off-kilter sneak attacks on some third party, and I also occasionally ignored cease-fire agreements, but that mostly seems to be it.

I remember getting totally destroyed by NK in one of Jason's NESes. It wasn't exactly a betrayal, but it still hurt.

I remember that one! North King used a great siege tactic during that war, which is probably why I remember it. I don't remember what was that attack exactly, though. :p I think it was either an artificial avalanche or a more ordinary flood caused by the sabotage of canals or something like that. Anyway, it was very effective.

Btw, NK, I seem to recall seeing your present avatar (and a Medieval version of that picture) on some Russian forum well over a year ago. Funny to see that this meme has spread into the Anglonet. ;)
